UHD clips on 1080 FCPX TL problem round tripping

I have some UHD interview clips on a 1080 TL in FCPX that I have cropped (zoomed in) at various levels. When I send it to Resolve 14 Studio matching the 1080 FCP project settings, the zoomed in 4K clips are a mess, image is mall box with a black border around them.
What am I doing wrong? Is there a setting in Resolve to fix this and get the clips full frame? Help would be great as it's a PITA!
