Clipping HDR to SDR tonemapping

PostSun Oct 29, 2017 7:22 am

I'm testing on some HDR sample to convert it to SDR. I'm using the HDR 1000 nits to Gamma 2.4 lut which handles the color conversion well, except for the whites, which are clipping.

How do I fix this? Is there a way to edit the lut?
Or does some one can share a custom lut based on the lut I used?

I'm new to this, so don't be harsh. :)

Is there a simple lut to prevent whites clipping by tonemapping HDR to SDR?

Why would you want to use a LUT when Resolve has tone mapping built-in?

Okay using the inbuilt tonemapping it still gives me clipping. See screenshot for my settings.

In the image you provided you have not enabled tone mapping.

Indeed, sorry. Added new screenshot.

The output is almost good. The darkest scenes seems to be too dark with crushing blacks and the brightest scenes seems a little too bright.

How do I adjust these? How do I adjust the 'brightness range'?

Do I need to use gamut mapping to go from bt.2020 to bt.709?
If so, what settings do I need to use?
