Awful save times, DaVinci 14

PostWed Nov 01, 2017 1:09 pm

Hi, I’m cutting a project that consists of a few short clips, and 5 or so 10 second timelines.

The project currently takes about 5 minutes to save. I’ve tried turning live save on but this now just means every edit takes 5 minutes to complete! Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I’m tempted to start again with the project as it’s all fairly simple, but without knowing what the issue could be I’m worried the same thing will happen.

Awful save times, DaVinci 14

I had this happen when I had a very large project with probably more than five large timelines, but the problem went away when I organized my work differently with a new project for each event. Didn’t realize this could even happen with 5 small timelines in a small project. Does the Live Save option also take five minutes per action?

Edit
It’s possible I also was using Stabilize on almost everything. Now I’m using that less only where it’s really needed.

Are you using a Disk Database or a PostgreSQL Database? And are you mounting the database locally on your machine or over a network from another drive / server?

Something is not making sense here.

If there's one thing that DR 14 is waaaay better than 12.x is the saving time, definitely something wrong in your setup.

Hi, thanks for replying;

I'm using a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), 16GB ram, OSX 10.13
Everything was running from a Disk DB locally, same issue with both Davinci Studio 14 and 14.1.

Other projects that have many many more timelines, clips and complexity have run completely fine before so I can't imagine its a specs issue. It happened with any kind of saving (including live).

Anyway, so I ended up having to redo the work from scratch and the issue went away so not sure what caused it. I've used two things in the project that I wouldn't normally do; a PSD matte and colour generator nodes in the colour tab. I've not used either in the new edit and things are back to normal...

I've been using Studio 14 since beta but this is the first project I've had any issue with, (including projects I'm working on concurrently with this one) so unfortunately I don't think this is the problem.

Attached is a screenshot of one of the timelines (in full). They're all comparable in length and complexity.

I'm experiencing exactly the same issue described above with Resolve Studio 14.0 and 14.2.
Saving on a DISK database over network takes 5-10 min.
I did try on a second workstation and I had the same problem.
If the disk database is copied to a local drive, saving time is instantaneous.

This behaviour only seems to be present with the studio version. So far, with non studio Resolve 14.2 everything is fine saving over network.

It's not recommended to put your Disk DB on a network share. It's best placed on a local SSD for best performance.

It is a 10GB ethernet share and it was working fine since a DISK DB has been included in Resolve (version 10 or 11). I'm experiencing this problem only in the Studio version of Resolve 14. Could it be linked to the collaborative tools that has been added?

Thank you
