Display HD output 1:1 size on UHD monitor

PostSun Nov 12, 2017 1:58 pm

Hello all,

I am sure that I am being not very bright on this, but I just can't figure it out..

Resolve 14, video monitoring to Decklink 4K Extreme 12G, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

What I am trying to do:

1) I have some HD 1920x1080p25 clips, on an HD timeline

2) the monitor I have is UHD 3840x2160, connected via HDMI to the Decklink 4K Extreme 12G

3) I want to see the timeline at 1:1 size on the monitor, i.e. a 1920x1080 window on the UHD monitor.

4) In Project Settings:
Image Scaling: Output Scaling: checked 'Match Timeline settings' so should be outputting HD 1920x1080
(also tried un-checking this with set to HD 1920x1080 - makes no difference)

Master Settings, Video Monitoring, Video format set as below ..

~~~~~
Problem:
a) if I set the Video Monitoring - Video format output to UHD 2160p then the Decklink scales up the timeline HD output to UHD
(Decklink output resolution set via: Project Settings, Master Settings, Video Monitoring, Video format set to UHD 2160p)
b) if I set the Decklink output resolution to HD then instead the monitor scales up the HD to fill the monitor [not what I want it to do but there is no way to change this on the monitor].
~~~~~

So my question is:
- can I set the Decklink to output UHD
- but get the timeline displaying 1:1 at HD in a window

and if so how?

Thanks, and apologies again if this is obvious :)

Can't swear this will work, but change the timeline, video monitoring and output scaling to UHD. Then select "Center crop with no rescaling" (Image Scaling>Input scaling).

If your monitor doesn't support a 1:1 display mode then I'm afraid you're SOL. Your settings are correct in Resolve for HD so this is really a monitor function. Some monitors do have this setting, and some don't. What monitor are you using?

OK - strange addition to this!

In the Edit workspace DaVinci resolve behaves as I described below..

BUT!! if I switch to
- the Color workspace
- or the Deliver workspace
then DaVinci Resolve behaves exactly as I would expect with my settings, i.e. I now get an HD window in the middle of my UHD monitor ..

So - why does this not work this way in the Edit workspace?

Kays,
Thanks, but see my new post - it works as I would want in the Color and Deliver workspaces but always zooms the HD to fill the UHD in the Edit workspace.

John,

Thanks, I do already have set both the Input scaling and Output scaling to 'Center crop with no resizing'

..and also zooms the HD to UHD in the Media workspace (same as Edit workspace)

Tineline resolution 1920x1080
decklink resolution UHD to the monitor
input scaling, whatever appropriate, i will use center crop no
resizing
Output scaling center crop no resizing
Outpit scaling timelibbe UHD

Should work

Walter,

That's great, thank you! It was the last step that I missed, i.e. in Output scaling I had set this to HD with Center crop no resizing.
But setting this to UHD means I now get in the Edit workspace the HD size window on the UHD monitor.

Thanks again,
