Frankly speaking, in my just-over-a-year long experience with DR (from the 12 to current Release), I've always found it weird that the simple stereo is not the default for all clips unless you explicitly change that in clips' Properties...
Out of the 4 main formats I'm using (DNxHR or Prores off the Inferno, internal H.264 flavors: XAVC-I from the FS7, XAVC-S from A7Rii, and the Panasonic Intra- or Inter-frame from my GH5), none will correctly pick the main L and R channels and play them back in stereo. So the part of my routine before creating the first timeline of any new project has always been to selct all clips in the media bin(s), open Properties and set 2 things:
- Audio channel assignment (usually to stereo, which can be tricky especially with the Inferno's 6-8 embedded plus 2 analog audio tracks)
- explicitly set Data levels from Auto (which is the default), as using RCM or ACEScc in my HDR10 grades I don't want to work with Video levels (the only exception to this rule is when I choose the Logarist workflow which assumes Video levels, but this is digressing anyway).
