Clip Attributes

PostWed Nov 15, 2017 4:26 pm

New to Resolve d I have already set a 1920x1080 project and saved as a template for futre use
Is there a way to set clip properties to stereo etc and save as part of this project as i find that unless this is done i get left channel only playing out to speakers via Intensity Pro
or will i always have to select all clips and set it up every time

Thanks
Fingers crossed

Hey John.

I don't know of any setting that will change this for you.
In System Preferences - Video & Audio IO you can set up your Speaker Setup, but I don't think that's your issue.

Alternatively... Maybe you are only getting left channel to speakers because of a different problem? does it happen with all files? Only in Resolve?

It honly happens with Resolve, playback isl left only till i change attributes and then its fine
The Intensity works fine in Edius, Premiere, and Vegas as well as others like Youtube etc

Frankly speaking, in my just-over-a-year long experience with DR (from the 12 to current Release), I've always found it weird that the simple stereo is not the default for all clips unless you explicitly change that in clips' Properties...

Out of the 4 main formats I'm using (DNxHR or Prores off the Inferno, internal H.264 flavors: XAVC-I from the FS7, XAVC-S from A7Rii, and the Panasonic Intra- or Inter-frame from my GH5), none will correctly pick the main L and R channels and play them back in stereo. So the part of my routine before creating the first timeline of any new project has always been to selct all clips in the media bin(s), open Properties and set 2 things:

- Audio channel assignment (usually to stereo, which can be tricky especially with the Inferno's 6-8 embedded plus 2 analog audio tracks)

- explicitly set Data levels from Auto (which is the default), as using RCM or ACEScc in my HDR10 grades I don't want to work with Video levels (the only exception to this rule is when I choose the Logarist workflow which assumes Video levels, but this is digressing anyway).

I have only been using a couple of weeks and trying out before a possible purchase
Like you i find it annoying that i have to select all and change attributes to Stereo etc
I would much [p[refer that this could be set up in [project settings and saved as a template

It cannot, because each camera may produce different channel assignment/number. The only way to automate it would be through metadata reading, at which Resolve is not good (at least with the cams I am using).
