Resolve 14.1 on Mac Crashes

PostFri Nov 17, 2017 12:42 pm

Just updated to 14.1 on Retina MacBook Pro w Touch (2016) and when trying to open Resolve the start up screen pops up, goes through loading all components, says ready and tries to go to the screen where I'd put in my password and then immediately crashes.

I restarted my mac, cleared the PRAM, uninstalled then reinstalled, and even went back to 14.0.1 (which I had no issues with) and have the same problem with 14.0.1

Any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

I am having the same issue. I upgraded my Mac installation of Resolve from 14 to 14.1 today and now when I try to open the program it disappears. I am running on a iMac 15,1 Intel Core i7 machine with 4GHz processors, 4 cores, 32GB Ram with AMD Radeon R9 M295X graphics card, running OS X version 10.12.6. I've tried rebooting the machine but to no avail. Any suggestions?

In a Finder window, go to /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve and double click CaptureLogs.

That will place a Resolve log file on your desktop. Put that file on a file sharing site and post a link to the file here.

Jason, I'm not trying to hijack your thread but since we're having the same issue I hope you don't mind my posting here as well. I don't know if this makes a difference but I had purchased the DR full license thru the Apple store last year. The 14.1 update came via the App Store as well.

Dwaine, for some reason I am not allowed to post URL links so I can't add my CaptureLogs file. Maybe because I'm new?

Thanks for any direction on this. If I need to start a new thread just let me know.

@jason It appears that Resolve was working with 14.1 on the 15th. The launch crashing appears on the 17th. Was anything changed or added to the system between the time it last worked and the 17th? Did you add any additional displays or anything like that?

@Randy: Way to crash a thread man! :) Put a space in the URL so it doesn't look like a URL to the forum software. There is some limit to new users posting URLs. I'm not sure if it's time based or number of posts based.

Hi Dwaine, Thank you so much for your help.

The only difference was using the built in MacBook Pro Retina Display whereas I normally have it plugged into the LG UltraFine. Is there a setting I should be changing when I do that ?

Dwaine, from the log file it appears that there was some old version 12 files in the system. I deleted everything and did a clean install of 14.1 and I am working again. Thanks and thanks Jason for letting me chime in. :)

Update: After logging out and back in again it is doing the same thing. Starts up then disappears. Since I purchased the App Store version it apparently doesn't create a log file. I'll try downloading the free version to see if it works and if it does then I'll purchase another license directly from BMD. Thanks again.

Hey Randy,

Are you changing monitor setups? I think that might be the issue I'm having. If I try and start the program 10-15 times after plugging in the monitor then it works.

Jason,

I didn't try that so I'm not sure. I deleted the program completely then downloaded the free version from BMD and reinstalled. It opens and runs with no issues. I'll be hooking up a second monitor today and will see if that makes a difference. Thanks!

You can only generate logs with the App Store version from the Resolve app itself, in the Help menu. If you can't launch App Store Resolve, that's a bit of an issue.
