Resolve Panel Firmware Update - safe for 12.5?

PostFri Nov 17, 2017 3:00 pm

Is the firmware update released with v14.1 compatible with version 12.5? We have have mix of versions in our facility (for reasons!) and need to move our mini panel between rooms. One is at ver. 14 & the others are at 12.5.

Can we apply the firmware update & still use the updated mini panel on our 12.5 systems?

I just did some tests on 14.1 a couple of days ago and the panel is fine with Resolve 12.5.6 (which I run on a partition).

I just downgraded from Resolve Studio 14.1.1 to 12.5.6 and the Davinci Resolve Panels software offered to "update" my panel from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1. I didn't test with the latest firmware, but it appears you can very easily downgrade the firmware.

I take that back: PANEL BREAKS IN 12.5.6 WITH THE 1.1.2 UPDATE.

IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP: DO NOT DO THIS!

I have not yet been able to restore 1.1.1 to the panel, so it no longer works in Resolve 12.5.6. Works fine in 14.1. Resolve 12.5.6 can no longer see the panel, and the older DaVinci Resolve Panel Setup app cannot restore the panel to 1.1.1 (at least so far).

How odd, seems I was lucky then. What is your OS and panel, Marc?

I am using the Micro Panel on Windows 10. I uninstalled Resolve 14.1.1 and the Panel software and then reinstalled Resolve 12.5.6 which brought back its own version of the Panel software. That did the trick for me.

This is Mac OSX 10.12.6.

I had not yet tried reinstalling Resolve 12.5.6, which I could "theoretically" do. I did run the separate 1.1.1 panel firmware update (DaVinci Resolve Panels Setup) and it reported this:

Image

It can't roll back to 1.1.1 if the panel already has 1.1.2, because it can't "see" it in the system. The 1.1.2 panel software works absolutely fine in Resolve 14.

What would be nice would be either a) we had a utility to force the panel to revert back to 1.1.1, b) or even better, a patch for Resolve 12.5.6 that would allow using a panel with 1.1.2 firmware. I would rather use Resolve 14 at this point, but I still have some clients I deal with who for logistical reasons are stuck with 12.5, and I have no choice but to work with their setup.

This basically forces me to take finished Resolve 14 projects and then use a chisel and a sledgehammer (XMLs and Gallery stills) to bring those projects into 12.5. It's tough work, but it can be done. (Pain-killers and loud cursing helps pass the time.)

maybe you could try to reflash the firmware of the panel.
This can be done by opening the DaVinci Panel application, powering off the panel then holding the Home button as you power the panel on.
When doing this you will be prompted in the DaVinci Panel application to update the firmware of the unit.

In my need to freelance for a client on a Mac with DR 12.5.6 and use my Mini Panel with 1.1.2 software... I discovered through DR Support that 12.5.6 will ONLY see the panel over Ethernet with 1.1.2 Panel Software. The USB connection is the culprit.
Correct that you cannot roll back the panel software.
You will need a power cord.
You also need to change your DR Preferences / Control Panels / Select to DRM Panel (Ethernet).

This is my pre research for a job this Friday (8/3/18).
Can someone else confirm? I will confirm after.

Thanks for that update, Dario. I did not try an Ethernet connection for my issue last year, and was just able to get my client to upgrade to Resolve 14 as a solution. At this point, it would be very, very hard to stick with 12.5 for the work I do.
