Cineform Errors

PostSat Nov 18, 2017 6:22 am

Using the latest versions of Resolve Studio (14.1), I get an error (see attached) every time I attempt to export or cache using Cineform YUV or RGB. It occurs more often with larger resolution projects, but still does with 1080. It also seems to happen on a few machines I've tried, all Win10 using TitanX cards. I've attached a screenshot of the error and a log. Please advise what I should attempt to troubleshoot the issue.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi,

Can you check that the delivery format is:
frame width must be evenly divisible by 16 and the frame height must be evenly divisible by 8?

Cineform doesn't have such a restrictions at all. It's not even DCT based, so has no macroblocks.
If Resolve enforces them then this is Resolve issue.

Hi Andrew,

This is not a problem of DCT and macroBlocks.

It's only from the cineForm SDK ...
// Can a frame with the specified dimensions be transformed into a wavelet pyramid?
IsFrameTransformable bool (int width, int height, int transform_type, int spatial_num);

The best is to wait for everyone's answer ...

oups...

I forgot the most important!
// Check that the frame is appropriate for the transform
assert (IsFrameTransformable (chroma_width, height, transform_type, space_num));

Assert.... ;)

Asserted....haha

I'm working at DCI 1.85 (3996 x 2160) but it occurs with a variety of other normal formats (1080, 720, UHD). Had it happen on a stock 1920 x 1080 project on a different machine from my regular one, so its not machine specific.

Never seen this issue with any other app which uses Cineform.
If it happens on many resolutions including very standard ones then it's 99% Resolve issue. Cineform itself has no issue wit any resolution.

I put some 8K Red Weapon clips on a UHD timeline and used GoPro Cineform RGB 16 bit cache mode on a Win10 system, and had no issues.

I don't see anywhere obvious in your logs where this is happening.

What happens in Resolve when the Microsoft error pops up? Does that crash Resolve? What happens when you select Abort, Retry and Ignore?

Can you provide a simple project export .drp that causes this to happen on your system? It would be great if you can make this happen using just Resolve Generators made into compound clips on a timeline, so media was not required to reproduce the issue.

A Windows System Information .nfo file would also be helpful.

I'm able to render Cineform from Helium 8K clips, but the Cineform files don't import into other software.

Currently I'm trying to use the 10-bit YUV option in AVI (because there are so few options), to edit in LightWorks... no dice. LightWorks can't read the file.

I'm not sure whether this is a LightWorks issue or a Resolve Cineform export limitation.
