can't export h264

PostWed Nov 22, 2017 11:53 am

Hello,

I'm encountering a problem when i try to export h264 video. When i click render it gives me an error after 2 or 3 seconds. This applies for quick time and mpeg4. Does anybody have any idea what the problem can be?
I'm on win 7 ultimate 64bit, Resolve studio 14.1

I need this for previews and uploading to youtube, vimeo and so on. At the moment I'm exporting .mxf and rendering it in Encoder to h264.

I've noticed this also.
I am on Win7-64 - Resolve 14.1 Studio.

I found that if I select the Youtube preset, and then edit the settings it works.
I still don't know why I have to go that route instead of starting from scratch?

Win7 is not supported. One reason is due to issues with H.264 renders.

If you set a bit rate, rather than "high", etc., h.264 export will work in Win7, with either QT or mp4.

Maybe, if you have the right Microsoft H.264 Fixit installed, and you are not doing UHD.

You're right. It won't work with UHD. I never think beyond HD.

This is more of another wotkflow than a solution:

I never export H.264 from Resolve, because the encoding isn't good enough as it is with all NLEs out there.

Instead I render a 10/12bit ProRes or DNxHR variant and then use the free Handbrake app for H.264/H.264 encoding.
Smaller files, better quality, more flexibility.

Because I also render cache in the same format already, my exports from Resolve are very fast as is Handbrake with its Consrant Quality one pass encoding.

Erik Wittbusch, I've noticed that Resolve h264 looks very bad when uploaded on a web platform, compared to other nle exports. You are right.

If I am correct, h264 doesn't support resolution over UHD.

Maybe Resolve can get h265 support soon?
