Contrast shift on export

PostThu Nov 23, 2017 5:28 pm

My system

Win10 Pro
Supermicro dual Xeon
Dual Titan X GPU
Decklink Extreme 3D
Dual Eizo CX721 monitors
Sony Bravia OLED
Resolve Studio 14.1

I recently had to do a full system restore after a fatal system crash and am just getting everything up and working again but it looks like some settings in Resolve need correction. The image in Resolve UI viewer matches the output of the Decklink card but I'm experiencing a significant contrast shift when I render files now. Previously I had no problem with any shifts on this system.

Source media is Alexa LogC 4444. Render is DNxHD QT 8-bit.

It looks like BM USA are closed for the holiday today. Any suggestions on how to correct this?

Thanks in advance,

Sorry I should have mentioned, I was on 14.1. I did upgrade to 14.1.1 just now and I'm still seeing the same contrast shift on export.

This is not uncommon. (I do believe the buggy, outdated QuickTime needs to die already.)

Have you tried MXF files?

I've tried exporting as DNxHD MXF files and h264.mp4 as well. All of the exports are identical with the same increased contrast.

Not sure if this applies but I was having issues with exported video going from video levels (16-235) to full range (0-255) which was causing everything to go extra contrasty. Finally realized my settings in the deliver page were set to Video>Data Levels>Full. I changed them to Video>Data Levels>Video and it solved my issue. Now everything I export looks the same in Resolve and other editing programs.

Could those setting have changed when you reinstalled?

Bingo! You are correct.

Was just able to get through to Resolve support and video/full option on the delivery page was the culprit. The output was set to FULL, when I change to AUTO it rendered correctly.

Crisis averted. Thanks all.

Awesome. This one had going in circles as well. In my case I had switched it to full thinking it meant higher quality. Coming from Vegas/Premiere background I was always struggling with certain codecs not reading the same in both programs so I finally figured it out. I'll keep reading the manual ;)
