Text oddities

PostThu Nov 30, 2017 8:18 am

Just run into some interesting behavior of the text function.

Make sure you are working in full res, or your text will scale later.

Rolling text behaves different from static text.
Like you can select a single word in static text, and make it bold or a different color or font.
Doesn't work in rolling text, it always changes the whole text, no mater what you select.

Static text seems to be smoother too. Also there seems to be a difference, when you type in the text by hand or just copy/paste it - depending on, if it is rich text or an other format.

Do I miss something, or do you guys see the same?

Yes, I've seen these very same behaviors as well.

When pasting text, I've found sometimes that the format as it displays inside the text box in the Inspector is oddly bolded. Reselecting portions of it and hitting Return and then deleting the Return can usually eventually get it to display normally inside the textbox. (One of those bugs that I, believe it not, did not feel necessary to report, lol.)

What Peter said. Like when you mark a text portion it gets bloated for instance.

Yes to all the above. The Text Generator is a weak portion of Resolve's Edit Page, and I hope it'll be greatly improved in future versions. Having the ability to do kerning and anti-aliasing would help quite a bit.

Ok thx to both of you...
Isn't it a windows thing ? Because I know that fonts are not treated the same way on these different systems, just a guess...
I'll try and see, but anyway I've been making titles out of Resolve for years know, for I noticed that it's indeed a weak portion.

I have been able to kern individual characters by selecting a character in the output monitor and adjusting the tracking in the inspector. I haven't tried it with anything but static text. I'm on a Mac running Resolve Studio 14.2
