Win10 / GTX 970 4GB: Crashing to black screen?

PostMon Dec 11, 2017 1:07 am

Hi All,

I recently refreshed my system innards with a B350 AM4 board running a Ryzen 7 1700, 16GB PC3200 RAM, Samsung 250GB 960 EVO M.2 for boot & 1TB EVO 840 as secondary. I'm still running with my old Geforce GTX 970 4GB, however have been eyeing off a Geforce 1080 Ti 11GB as from what I've read Resolve is a monster on vram. System is running Windows 10 with the lastest AMD and Nvidia drivers.

I have been finding that when using Davinci 14 the screen will sometimes just go blank and the only way I can rectify is to reboot. I thought it may have been an overheating issue with the 970, so I under-clocked it as far as it would go and wound the fan right up and also set my project to render the timeline at 720p. A little better, but still always crashes to a blank screen eventually.

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this, and if so how they fixed it? Could it be due to mixing AMD / Nvidia on the system?

So downloaded the Magix Vegas Pro trial and found it was having the same issues. Nothing Resolve specific it would seem.

For anyone else having these issues, I think I may have fixed this with a BIOS upgrade for my motherboard. Managed a solid 4 hour stint last night, something that I've not been able to do for the crashing issue until now.
