Audio Suddenly Stops Working

PostMon Dec 11, 2017 1:34 am

Hello... I've searched through the forum here and it seems I have tried everything suggested - aside from reformatting my machine and re-installing everything.

Yesterday Resolve was playing sound files. Today... no sound. Vegas Pro works fine and plays sound. Sound Forge plays sound. Resolve decided to stop working.

I'm on Windows 8.1 64bit with 16gb RAM; Resolve 14.1.1.005 - I believe the latest version.

Must be a software issue, but I don't know what else to try.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Dave,

Same problem here with the same Resolve Version 14.1.1.005 STUDIO, windows 10
Soundcard is a focusrite 2i2 with the latest drivers

I'm working with panasonic MP4 files, Canon 5d .mov and raw BMCC files. I'm starting to think the MP4 footage might have something to do with my problem, being a non professional format and all?

i tried disabling all unused audio devices, the sound comes out when i start editing, then stops randomly at some point

Some of the times the rest of the softwares still work, sometimes not. works to unplug/replug the soundcard after i quit resolve, but it's fairly time consuming and annoying.

Anyone has idea of what i could try? what converting software would you use to convert the MP4 footage?

thanks!

I just found a lead while looking in the soundcard forum, try lowering the soundcard latency in the card control panel

I assume you have checked the buss assignments in the Fairlight page? On restarting DR14 also assumes you want to listen to the 1st master buss even if there is nothing assigned to it. Obviously it wont be something simple like having turned the sound off in one of the pages?

I'm sure you have, but just in case. While in Resolve, have you guys clicked on the speaker icon in the lower right of your screen and checked to be sure that your sound card is selected for output?

thanks Thom and Peter, Yes I did check routing and bus assignments, as well as the speaker icon toggle.

raising the latency (from 1to8ms) on the soundcard did the trick sofar, didn't lose any signal anymore

I have NO idea what the problem was. Bus assignments were correct. After restarting three times... the sound started working again. I re-checked all settings and nothing changed. Vegas worked with the sound. Soundforge worked with the sound. Resolve did not work. But now it works. Can't be a hardware issue since the other programs worked... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it keeps working.

Dave, let me guess, you run DR on a PC?

Yes. Why, is there a problem with DR on a PC?

I use DR 16 on a 2020 IMac Pro. Have the same problem. Three years later!

4 sounds parts have suddenly lost volume and are not recognised in Fairlight as even existing. Nothing wrong with any other parts of my edit. It means I cannot trust DV 17 anymore. I will be switching to a better editor as this is just unreliable. Sorry, you made a great piece of software but the updates always seem to ruin it.

On my machine I found that specific channel was causing the audio to stop. Luckily though I didn't need that channel
