Resolve not using CPU power on Macbook - why?

PostWed Dec 13, 2017 4:26 pm

Hi,

I just got the Macbook Pro 15 2017 with 4GB VRAM.

When I render on resolve, the CPU hangs around 30-40% - why is it not using 80-100% like on my Windows machine? I use Istats and the GPU doens't seem to be the bottleneck either. I use an external RAID (with 200 MB/S which should be way more than enough) and writing on my fast internal ssd...

I run High Sierra. Manual Fans on highest speed.

Any suggestions what might hinder the CPU from using it's capacity?

Thanks.

Different formats utilize the CPU differently. I can squeeze close to 100% out of each core with R3D files, but XAVC-I won’t ever exceed 60% or so.

What’s your source format?

Source format: ProRes

The fix was: restart the mac - then I got between 90-100%. Seems like having turned on the mac too long seems to hinder its render performance.
