Audio problem after importing XML from Resolve to Resolve

PostTue Dec 26, 2017 2:29 pm

Hi,
I importing an XML that was created with resolve to another machine with resolve. I have the correct frame rate and relinked all the footage succesfully. I see the audio files with wavefrom in my timeline. If I double click them, I am also able to listen to them, however during playback of the timeline, the audio files remain silent. The clibs are not disabled, muted or volumed out.

Any ideas ? maybe a bug?

Which version of Resolve? What specific kind of source formats are you using? What operating system?

Very annoying bug. The only way I found at the moment is to:
import the xml (audio is there but doesn't work) video is correct
import an aaf (editing of video and audio is not correct, sometimes randomly is different)
copy the audio tracks of the aaf and paste into the xml timeline
check audio cut by cut, if there's a difference with the "muted" audio tracks of the xml, adjust it.

Do your files have proper TC?

What do you mean for proper timecode? They have timecode

Have you checked to see if there is anything odd in the Media Pool files' clip attributes for Audio?

Proper TC means that not every clip is starting at zero, but has an individual TC.

I didn't notice anything odd. The thing is strange because the audio files are from an external recorder. Also in the aaf, sound is fine.

If they all start at zero, that is not proper TC, it just means that Resolve is counting from zero.
Proper TC is either consecutive (rec run), TOD or jam synced.

If I remember correctly, I got files with proper TC from some users of A7S, but not all. It's either embedded with some file formats only or you need to activate it in one of those (awfully confusing) menus.

Uli, why should it matter? All you need is a file name and a timecode. It shouldn't matter what the TC starts at or what the other files' TC's start at. The XML should have starting timecode and length for each video and audio file, but these shouldn't need to match each other. And what these valuse are for other clips with different names should be irrelevant.

Well, I don't want to say it's necessarily the reason for your problem, it's just that I have experienced problems with such files when exchanging edits between Premiere and Resolve by XML.

So, it was just a wild guess by me when I read your post.

Ive identified this problem on several projects from resolve 12 on until now.
usualy I did not make much of it becaus I was only using it for colour. Now however I intend to edit a short film using Resolve, I wold like very much to have this fixed or at least have som light shed from Blackmagic on the subject. After all blackmagic says we can use it for editing and colouring and comp and audio. Im trying.

I had this same problem,
the issue is when importing timelines it defaults back to the 'default' video fps timeline.
strange as it may seem this doesn't seem to be properly recorded in the export timeline function.

The workaround is to right-click on the audio clip, and choose clip attributes,
then on the video setting set the frame rate to your main clip,
in my case, the import was set to 30fps when my video clips to match were set to 50 fps
for some reason this defaulted back in the import, once changing this setting it all worked perfectly.
