Intel Skull Canyon+BlackMagic DaVinci Resolve compatibility

PostFri Jan 05, 2018 7:02 am

Just got this from a friend at intel.
"A pro tip for you - if you are thinking of updating your Intel Iris graphics drivers right now, DON'T DO IT. Anything AFTER Oct 2017 will break Davinci Resolve. The reason is that Resolve relies upon a registry hack to discover the OpenCL capabilities of the graphics device. This is bad practice, and Microsoft has stated that drivers which do this will no longer be certified for Redstone (the codename for the Windows 10 upgrades). So Intel started exposing the device capabilities in the proper manner that Microsoft asked for, which is called Universal Discovery. BMD hasn't updated their discovery code yet, so if you upgrade, Resolve will no longer find an OpenCL device."

Any word on whether this affects 7th gen NUC's?

Literally just bought one today to spec out as a Raw Recorder for my Cion,.. and was about to install Resolve14 on it and thought, 'I should look up the NUC on the BMD forum to see if the GPU is supported,..."

Looks like it does - Desktop Video installer exits, trying again after Windows update completes.

Desktop Video installs and runs on 7th Gen NUC.

Downloaded Resolve Studio by mistake (again,..) it installed,. started, got all the way through to the serial number before realising.

Back to download, Resolve (not Studio), installed okay, starts, exits without running.

Win10 x64 with current updates, all Intel drivers updated.

Just saw, that there is a new version out at CES, called Hades Canon.

Features a AMD Vega GPU on a chip plus a few TB ports - now that would make it a pretty sweet DIT station.

Intel CPU with AMD Graphics HANDS ON! - Hades Canyon NUC

Intel promises its new CPUs will match Nvidia’s potent GTX 1060, thanks to AMD
