Crash after switching to 4K DCI

PostThu Jan 18, 2018 2:18 pm

Been grading 8K R3D clips in an HD timeline for the last few weeks. Now that we're getting ready to output I switched the timeline from HD to 4K DCI, and it crashed Resolve. Now Resolve crashes every time I try to open the project. Anyone experienced this issue?

Running 14.2 Studio on latest Windows OS, GTX 1080, i7 3.4 Ghz 6-core.

Thank you!

Could be GPU not able to process the 4K images from the debayered 8k.
In preferences, r u using Metal or Open CL or CUDA?

Sorry, Peter, it's Windows – no Metal.

But it could be an underpowered GPU.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

The odd thing is that it seemed to work when on the Color page, but crashed when I switched to Edit.

Is there anything I can do to change the resolution back or get back to the Color page before it crashes?

Anyone? This project has come to a standstill now that it crashes on launch...

Are you saying you cant open Resolve and a new project now?
Can you try 14.2.1 that was released yesterday?

14.2.1 seems to have fixed it! Thanks Peter. I'll report back if the problem returns during output.

Unfortunately the problem has returned during output. It gets maybe 1 or 2% of the way in and crashes. Doesn't seem to be a consistent point when the crash occurs.

Also monitored GPU usage, and it wasn't maxing out at the time of the crash (was only hitting maybe 40%).

How's your hard drive speed? Use the Blackmagic Speed test on it and report back. I recently had an insane amount of crashes on this one project, and narrowed it down to the hard drive that the footage was living on.

It's pretty solid, 300-400 MB/s. Rendering to a somewhat slower drive (100 MB/s).

I'm a little low on space on the media drive but it still has roughly 100GB.

Tried rendering in HD and it's going steady at 10% so far.

Definitely something to do with the 4K. Not enough GPU memory maybe?

Would a 1080 Ti solve this issue? Or an additional 1080?
