ultra wide GUI

PostThu Jan 18, 2018 5:53 pm

Greetings from Detroit, Can anyone share some knowledge on using ultra wide screen 38 or 34 inch gui displays. Will one ultra wide gui in color tab display gallery, scopes, and timeline? Thanks, Rick

I think you're better off using two smaller monitors side by side, which is a lot more practical and cost-effective.

One ultra wide GUI display will look the same as one standard wide GUI display, with stuff spread out more over the wider display. But you can't add any additional widgets, such as you get in dual display mode.

I use an iiyama ProLite XUB3490WQSU-1B, 34" 21:9, native resolution 3440x1440,
and it's got a feature that lets you split the screen in half, using two inputs.

So basically I'm enjoying the benefits of 'dual display mode' using two outputs from the Nvidia card, feeding 2 'virtual' screens at 1720x1440, and also get a SEAMLESS desktop of 3440x1440.

Works pretty well!

Here's a good reason why I split the screens in two, with GUI on the right and scopes on the left:

Image

That display is actually a 65" monitor about 8 feet in front of me, with room for clients to see it. A wide display wouldn't give me the room to see the hero display in the middle.

In a D-cinema theatrical situation, I could see using a larger monitor directly in front, tilted down for the GUI. But there's a lot of reasons where I'd rather use external scopes when possible.

I never have the gui directly in front of me in a digital cinema environment: even the light from the panel is distracting.

The gui is on the side and on the small side of things.

What exactly the models of Dell monitors are presented on Blackmagic site pages ?
Which ones are the best suited for Resolve on Windows (scaling problems etc.) ?
2560x1440 or 4K is a better option ?

For a while I was using two ultra wides beside each other...and loved it. Then I moved to a new office, and my layout changed enough that I couldn't do it properly...so I stacked them...and loved that...in resolve, but Avid couldn't handle it properly, and I ended up switching to a 42 inch 4K Samsung tv as my GUI.
(And yes...I love it)

I use the LG ultrawides for all our systems. We have the quad hd and standard ones. They are all good but the quadHD is the best for Resolve. I wish there was native support for more layout options with the ultrawides but I'm happy enough with the standard layout, the dual inputs is a good work around if you want to mimiq the dual screen layout though. After using ultra wide I don't think I could go back to the dual monitor setup.
