I can I add a Strobe Effect?

PostThu Jan 18, 2018 7:14 pm

Id like to add a strobe effect to a background image in Resolve. Something similar to the way a filmstrip might flicker. How can I do that in Resolve?
Configuration:
Resolve Studio (Always the Latest)
Windows 11 Pro Workstation
32 Core AMD Ryzen Threadripper 256GB RAM
RTX 4090
RTX 3090
100G NAS
(1) 32" Ultra-Wide Display, (1) 4K 27” Display

I don't think there's a way to do it within Resolve by itself, but you could get close with BorisFX BCC or Sapphire:

I have tried to simulate flashing light effects as lightning in a room at night using only power windows and Resolve LGG controls, and while I wasn't totally happy with it, the client bought it and was OK with the final look. There is something inherently organic about the inconsistency of real strobe/flashing lights, particularly in the way they change frame-to-frame and alter shadows, and that takes a ton of VFX work or just doing it live on the set.
