Combining frame rates on a timeline

PostSat Jan 20, 2018 6:55 pm

I am unclear about some details of changing frame rates. I need to place a 25 fps clip into a 23.97 fps timeline. The original duration of the 25fps clip is 25:05:08, but when it is placed on the 23.97 timeline, the duration is 25:03:19. Do I need to change the clip speed manually to get the proper duration of 25:05:08? Also, is it correct the Project Settings>Editing>Frame Interpolation>Retime Process should be set to Nearest when changing frame rates on the Timeline?

Thank you,
Don

I would have expected the new duration of the clip to be 26:10:04 give or take a frame. Your clip has 37,634 frames and you’re playing that back at a slower frame rate so it’s going to take about 4% longer to play.

The best approach in my opinion to use a 25fps clip in a 23.976 timeline is to slow down the 25fps clip and resample the sound with the pitch remaining.
