Bug Report: 14.3 on Windows

PostSun Feb 18, 2018 3:42 pm

When I delete a clip that has a Centered transition, the transition remains on the clip left behind, converted to a Start or End transition accordingly. That's not the correct behavior. Center on Edit transition must be removed when either clip it's centered on is removed.

Here's the scenario. You have clips A, B and C sequentially in the timeline. You have a Center on Edit transition between clips A and B, and also between clips B and C. This is a pretty common edit.

Now, Ripple Delete clip B to shorten the program, and we find clip A with End transitions, and clip C with Start transitions. That doesn't work. So we have to manually remove the remaining transitions before we can reapply the proper Center on Edit transition between clips A and C. It's unnecessary additional work. Removing clip B needs to remove the Centered transitions automatically, not convert it to Start or End transitions.

I’m pretty sure that Avid will leave them as centred transitions, fading to black/silence, which makes a lot of sense, particularly with audio. (Transitions not ‘falling off’ as clips were deleted/moved was a massive improvement when it came to avid.)

Resolve has followed PP in not allowing the transitions to use the filler thus has to change them

Thanks for jumping in Trevor, but...that's confusing. You can't have a centered transition with only one clip.

Removing either of the clips involved in a centered transition should remove the transition, not convert it. If I wanted a Start or End transition, I would have added those in the first place. I want Centered, and only Centered. When the conditions for Centered do not exist, there can be no transition.

Premiere Pro operates correctly on this front. Resolve does not. It needs correction.

Easy Jim, this isn't Simon Says!

I couldn't resist and attempt at humor. Please take it as a joke.

Sincerely, this is one area that Avid handles quite well. PP and DR could take a note from them. Once you have seen and understand the way Avid handles dissolves it is quite nice which leads to much less need to reapply lost dissolves.

Piggy backing on the Bug report with dissolves...

DR doesn't understand that a dissolve is already in place. Image goes black at the start of the transition as if it's not there. Added another dissolve just to see.

Got a 5 minute delay whereby I couldn't do anything while waiting for the program to crash.

Sorry for the intrusion.

This is what DR thinks of the timeline when I delete the video file.

You might be addressing a different issue. I'm not complaining about lost transitions, I'm complaining about transitions that remain behind when they should be automatically removed.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

STOP CHANGING MY TRANSITIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I want a Center On Edit transition, and one of those clips goes away, the transition MUST ALSO GO AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jim,

Workaround: Use the lasso and once selected what you want to remove: press DEL :)

Thanks for the tip Jean Claude. But I'm not always zoomed in enough for that to be practical.
