Advice on hardware setup

PostWed Feb 21, 2018 8:54 pm

Hi everyone!

I am new to DaVinci Resolve. I am mainly editing/delivering 1080p@60fps videos, but i can deliver only about 28-32 fps.

My setup is:
GTX 1060 3GB
i7-4770
MSI Z87-G43 Gaming
2x4 & 2x2 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Ram
480 GB SATA3 SSD

So the CPU is nearly maxed out. I have some spare money for a used Quadro K4000 3GB VGA. Will it make any difference in terms of video encoding? I panned it as a seconf card. Or i should sell my GTX 1060 3GB and buy a used GTX980/980Ti?

To be clear, the problem is that you can only render around 30fps on delivery page?

It most like won't make much of a difference. It's just all what your machine can do with Resolve which is quite hardware demanding.

Yes, exactly.

My guess is that your CPU is bottlenecking you. Check your CPU usage in task manager during rendering, if it's at 100% then a new GPU will not help you.

I just swapped from an i5 4690, with that CPU the usage was 100% during rendering. But with the i7 4770 the usage is about 90%, but the render speed not changed.
