Color rotation Matrix for color space transform?

Someone asked me about using a color rotation matrix to transform from Alexa color space to Rec709 instead of a transform LUT.

This is somewhat out of my wheelhouse. Can someone enlighten me on best practices for using color rotation matrices in Resolve?
