Bug on Linux - DPI scaling issues

PostWed Mar 14, 2018 11:33 am

Hello Friends,

I installed DaVinci Resolve 14.3.0.014 on Centos7.4. I am using Gnome 3.22 on HiDpi Monitor. I have HiDpi scaling turned on in Gnome settings, but DaVinci Resolve seems to not respect this preference. When I start DaVinci Resolve everything is so tiny, it is nearly unusable. It is pretty frustrating to see that DaVinci Resolve is not working correctly even on recommened platform.

Is there some way how I can tell DaVinci Resolve to use correct Dpi scaling? Or is there some setting inside DaVinci Resolve which needs to be changed?

I also tried setting various values for GDK_SCALE=x or GDK_DPI_SCALE=x before starting DaVinci Resolve but it seems that it does not have any effect.

I also enclose screenshot of my problem.

Thank you very much for any help or information.

Have a nice day. :)

I have the same issue. I was able to force Resolve to run in a reduced resolution on a previous install of Linux, but I forgot how to do it, also it didn't look very good. I have been trying to figure this out for a while but it doesn't look like there is a good solution for it, hope I am wrong though...

Please can someone from Blackmagic team comment on this issue? Please is there some possibility to run Resolve on HiDpi monitor under Linux? Or not at the moment? Are we doing something wrong?

Please can some Resolve developer comment on this? Is it possible to somehow set the dpi scaling correctly on Linux?

As you can see from this thread, other people have the same issue. It's not as much Linux than a Resolve issue.

That seems to be a Windows 10 specific thread. I actually have no issues with scaling in Windows 10 on my 4k monitor, everything looks fine there at 150% (well, except if I use dual monitors with different resolutions). Scales nicely inside MacOS also. But on the Linux version there doesn't seem to be happening any scaling at all.

Yes, according to my experience it is working fine on Windows, this is clearly Linux specific bug.

This is not a bug. Resolve has not been developed for HiDPI on Linux.

See Resolve 15's hardware guide:
For Windows and Linux systems we recommend monitors with 2560x1440 down to 1920x1200
resolution for the best layout. There are also a number of superwide screen monitors that are
suitable with 3440x1440 resolution to offer more timeline, node editor and gallery still
screen space.

Hey lbgyan. Did you ever find a resolution for this? I'm in almost exactly the same position, except with a 4k Oryx Pro, and now Resolve 15. I'm about to install the newest release (15.2.2) and hope it's been fixed, but I'm not optimistic based on what I've read.

I bought this laptop for the sole purpose of editing in Resolve on commuter trains, so this issue is killing me. My best workaround so far is to use the accessibility features of Gnome/KDE to zoom into Resolve. (KDE is WAY better at this, btw.)

Thanks for any update you can provide.

Same story with DaVinci Resolve 16 on Linux with a Dell UltraSharp 24" Ultra HD Monitor - UP2414Q:

I'm crossposting this from here because this topic seems more active. I'm hoping to catch the notifications when someone figures out a workaround.
