Multicam Syncing Question

PostWed Mar 21, 2018 9:38 pm

Hello all, Derrick here. I'm new to DaVinci Resolve but, so far I like it much better than Premiere Pro CC. However, I haven't been able to figure out how to sync multiple cameras for my scenario. For example; I'm using 3 action cameras and recording 15 min sessions. Each camera creates three 5 min clips, so I'm working with 9 video files total. How do I go about creating a multicam sequence in DR 14?

I am assuming that your cameras do not have proper TC jam.

If this is the case I would guess that your easiest route would be to create a multigroup using the first clip from each camera. Then open the created group as a timeline and add the subsequent cameras.
PC: Resolve 18.0.1, WINDOWS 10, GTX 3090
Desktop Video 12.0
(All bug reports etc. are PC unless specified.)
Mac: Mac Studio M1 Ultra, Resolve 18.0.1, 12.4

Give the demo version of PluralEyes a try, if your cameras have recorded any sound.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

They do but, I use them for track days on my motorcycle so it's just loud engine noise. I do use clap markers but, that's only on the first clips.

Hey,
When I personally have to deal with that, I also use Plural Eyes, but anyway, I'd first make one clip out of 3 coming from one single cam. For the next actions, it depends on audio or the easiness of "eye-syncing" with marker...

Resolve has the option to detect clips from the same camera during Milticam creation. Is that not working for your media?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I'm not familiar with that functionality. I've only been using resolve for a couple of months. My process has been as Sam Steti suggested, i.e. make one clip first then manually syncing them. However until Nathan Morgan's suggestion I was rendering them out into a single MP4 file first. Took me forever as I actually have 5 action cameras LOL. Rarely does audio auto sync work and because all of the angles are different, visual markers were a challenge as well. To help with this what i've resorted to doing first is, pointing all cameras at the same subject then setting a clap marker before mounting them to my motorcycle. However, if Resolve can detect all of the clips from the same camera, that will drastically shorten my editing time even further. If you can, please direct me to that feature?

It's a check box when you create the Multicam clip.
