Release of DaVinci Resolve 15 Studio Public Beta

PostMon Apr 09, 2018 5:20 pm

We are pleased to announce the release of DaVinci Resolve 15 Studio Public Beta and have listed the new features, improvements and some FAQs to help you update.

Who can use it?
The Studio version is available from our support web site as a no cost upgrade to all existing DaVinci Resolve Studio activation key and dongle customers and also Fusion Studio customers can use their single license Fusion Studio Dongle for Resolve Studio.

There are free versions also available from the support site and an updated comparison table to describe the differences between the Studio, free and App Store version. This update is available for Mac, Windows and Linux OS but please note the App Store versions will only be available after the final non beta release.

Will the project database change?
There is a database update required for this release so if you are on v14, please back up your database and then most importantly import that backup to verify its status. You can save it as a copy of the original database so you can then upgrade the copy and preserve the original should you wish to re-install v14.3.

We also recommend you also make a drp export of your active projects.

If you are Mac prior to macOS Sierra 10.12, and using v12.5 or older, please see the details at the bottom of this post regarding upgrading of older databases on older OS.

After installing DaVinci Resolve 15 Public Beta when you first start the application you will be prompted to update your database and we recommend you select the one you restored from the backup.

Where should bug reports be posted.. and things we like too?
We have a new sub-forum for DaVinci Resolve 15 Public Beta feedback so if you find bugs or crashes please assist everyone with details of your system, the bug report and diagnostic log if you have one. You can make them from the DaVinci Resolve help menu.

Should I jump right in while in the middle of my project?
Like all of our public beta releases we welcome your feedback and are grateful of the time you invest to test and report on the software. But please use caution when using this release for any projects with tight deadlines or complex long term workflows. While we have extensive QA its a big release and obviously we cant test for every scenario be sure to back up your project before upgrading.

How often will you release updates to the public beta?
There will be regular updates to improve the software during the beta phase and these will also depend on the detail you can provide in your bug reports.

When will you have the official final release?
The final release date will be determined later in Q2. In the meantime we hope you enjoy using DaVinci Resolve 15 public beta and hope to hear if you like it too.

Upgrading your PostgreSQL database server on Mac

Until DaVinci Resolve 12.5.2, the Mac installer used to ship with PostgreSQL version 8.4.2. Starting from macOS Sierra 10.12, PostgreSQL version 8.4 is no longer supported. If you intend to upgrade to the latest OS, you will need to upgrade your PostgreSQL database server to version 9.5.4 prior to upgrading macOS. Once your PostgreSQL installation has been upgraded and your data has been ported, you can then proceed with your macOS upgrade.

We have provided apps to simplify upgrading your PostgreSQL version on your Mac. The apps along with instructions can be found in the /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Upgrade PostgreSQL folder.

Starting from DaVinci Resolve 12.5.3, new installations will include PostgreSQL version 9.5.4.
