Deleting OR Hiding Fusion & Fairlight Tabs

PostMon Apr 16, 2018 10:18 am

Both tabs are simply in the way of accomplishing anything productive. Mind if the end-user hides these tabs on a preference-pane level?

Can't you just not click on them?

I don't see how they'd get in the way of anything as long as you don't click on them...

In my opinion, we should be able to hide all the tabs and use shortcut keys instead. The tabs are taking up some space in the screen.

If just the existence of 2 extra tabs is “preventing you to do anything productive” i think its time to admit to yourselve that maybe should find an other job..... or visit a medic as you have serious issues dude.

This is a silly idea.... AND imagine the forum posts dedicated to explaining that those items are not missing, they are just hidden because of a system setting!

I would rather hide some forum topics than functional buttons in Resolve!

I bet you could buy two pieces of Post-It Notes and cover them up on the screen that way. Just pretend they're not there.

thats only a temporary fix tho Marc - post it notes always loose their stickiness. Better to go for Twink or White Out and paint directly onto the screen for a permanent fix

Nah, better crop your monitors bottom part (physicaly or using some nifty screen cropping tool).
Alternatively if you dont want to damage your screen either physivaly or with post it glue, you could put on some glasses and tape Marc's post-it's to the bottom of the glasses so you just dont see the tabs.
Only downside i see is that the yellow post it reflections on the screen may shift your color grading slightly so you need to compensate for that a bit.

You could always display icons only, by right clicking on the Page bar and selecting the "Show Icons Only" option.

UI becomes much less cluttered as a result.

You would need to use calibrated post its and change them whenever they started to fade.

Here's how to disable the tabs:

go to preferences/system/advanced

paste these lines:

Local.GUI.ShowFusionPage = 0
Local.GUI.ShowFairlightPage = 0

save preferences

Restart Resolve

Later if you want the tabs back, just delete the lines, save and restart.

In 15.1.1 these settings are no longer available. Is there a new way to hide page tabs? For my current use, I don’t use Fusion at all, and found if I accidentally pressed the Fusion tab, the clips in the timeline were no longer able to be reframed using the clips actual resolution when I returned to the Edit page (1080 clips in 720 timeline).

If you "reset fusion composition" from the fusion menu when you accidentally hit it, things should return to normal. A bit of a PITA, and doesn't directly answer your question, but it should work.

Thank you, Jason. I’m fairly new to Resolve so don’t know all the menus’ contents.

I’m wondering why this functionality was removed (if it actually has been)?

Miltos, I’m not sure what part of this thread amazes you, but I have a feeling it has to do with why anyone would want to hide the Fusion tab (looking at your signature). At this time I have no use for Fusion (though would like to learn it in the future) and found this ShowFusionPage setting in this forum which I used while using the beta versions so I didn’t accidentally enter the Fusion page. Now I’m wondering what was the reason for having this setting and why it was removed in the release version?

There's nothing wrong with wanting a reconfigurable GUI. The tabs seem pretty large to me, but I can see a huge difference in needs for someone using a tablet vs trackpads vs touchscreen vs hotkeys vs mouse, and that's assuming the same tasks. Someone who only does audio or only does grading and doesn't need all the other features might want something more efficient. I don't think it makes sense as a setting, but the general idea of a reconfigurable workspace isn't bad.

1) right click and select icon only will reduce the size.
2) in so used to click to the icon next to edit to go to color that i invariably open fusion every. Single. Time.

Given the superb shared project / collaboration functionality in Resolve, I'm very hopeful Blackmagic will add a method, perhaps via the DaVinci Project Server UI, for admins to be able to control tab access privileges on a user by user basis eg No Access/Read Only/Full Access. As I understand it, at present, enabling collaboration for a project opens it up completely to anyone with access to the server. An ability to be able to invite specific users and grant them specific access rights would seem to be a logical next step. No reason users working in non-collaborative environments couldn't inherit some of that functionality, with local databases, allowing them to enable/disable specific tabs via the project settings.

Well, obviously (at least to me) when someone doesn't have a use for a major feature in a software package, it doesn't mean that this is a good reason to make a key UI element disappear.

What amazed me was the sentence "Both tabs are simply in the way of accomplishing anything productive". I found it hilarious that someone could express such a total lack of consideration to the fact that some other Resolve users might find the Fairlight and Fusion pages as essential as the Edit and Color pages.

So, i will definitely have to agree with Chad on that. A reconfiguration or rearrangement of some UI elements sounds like a better proposition. However, i am of the opinion that all 5 page buttons should be unhidden and immediately accessible at all times.

:D

Not that long ago, someone suggested that maybe the COLOR tab wasn't that necessary in an edit application; it should be a filter like in FCPX (et al.) or maybe Black Magic should consider releasing separate color grading software. I mean, really, how many projects need color attention now since "modern cameras are almost perfect"? Yes, someone said that to me.

i have alot of seat time on DS, there you can either use the color tab, or drop a color effect onto a clip in the edit tab, and open a floating window with the color tools in it.. you chose.... end game is the same

but DS has a very diffrent underpinning, there the tabs are nothing more than re-aranged ui, all the tools are always avb in all the tabs

back to ui navagation...
