Failure to deliver in MXFop1a Xdcam422

PostTue Apr 17, 2018 6:59 pm

Defenitly everybody like me is excited about DR15 now, but I must share this experience in DR14 studio.
We finished editing 20 episodes 40 min each. Original footage are most Prores444(alexa) with a mix of .Mov (5D mk4).
Timelines were all consolidated to dnxHQx12bit. Then graded in Resolve .
It’s the first time we take the decision to finalize and deliver the final product from Resolve. So we graded and rendered back to Resolve in Prores444.
On The client request we exported to MxfOP1a XDcam 422 stereo. In all Episodes and on each fade to black or dissolve we had quality degradation and pixilation in the black. Moreover we had some major interlacing in part of the images although the deinterlace quality was set to high.
Under pressure of time we exported to MXF DNXhqx10bit. The picture quality was superb, but we were surprised when we had consistently in 20 episodes 5sec audio breaks every 3 to 4 mins.
It was too late to open the episodes In PR . So In premiere we joined the dnxHqx10bit video with the audio from the mxf Xdcam export and re-exported toMxfop1a Xdcam422 without any error. The image was crystal clear.
It was a very frustrating process. We have to admit that Resolve studio 14 handled 50tb of rushes graciously with 40 timelines and 80bins without a single crash, yet it failed us on the delivery.

We opened a drp on different machines to check, we had same results.

The editing, consolidating and final export were done on DR14.3.0.014 /win10pro/gtx1080 /8cores Xeon
Grading on macpro DR14.3.0.014 /sierra
