5.1 plus stereo tracks

PostWed Apr 25, 2018 8:49 pm

I need to bring in a master edit into a timeline that has 8 tracks. 1-6 are the surround sound audio and track 7 & 8 are a stereo mix. I want to pass the audio through on export.

Track 1:Left (5.1)

Track 2: Right (5.1)

Track 3: Center (5.1)

Track 4: LFE (5.1)

Track 5: Left Surround (5.1)

Track 6: Right Surround (5.1)

Track 7: LT

Track 8: RT

How do I set my timeline (audio)?
Using Resolve 14.3
Mac Pro

Thanks,
Jim

Moved onto R15 but that all worked OK there in a quick test.

Import media
Set clip attributes audio to be 5.1 for A1-A6, 2.0 for A7-A8
Make a timeline - make sure A1 is 5.1 and A2 is 2.0
Fairlight tab - make sure bus format is Main1=5.1 M2=2.0
Bus Routing is A1->M1 A2->M2
Deliver - make sure audio export is set to Output Track 1 from M1, Track 2 from M2

I would guess it gets more difficult if you have to actually mix to those specifications in an NLE... plus R14.3 may not have the Fairlight section so well developed (I'm still on R12.5 for proper work, and only use it for Color there)

If you’re doing audio pass through then you don’t need to touch the fairlight tab, just have the audio tracks in the deliver page set to the relevant timeline tracks instead of the main output
MBP2021 M1 Max 64GB, macOS 14.4, Resolve Studio 18.6.6 build 7
Output: UltraStudio 4K Mini, Desktop Video 12.7

I did get Tom's suggestion on the passthrough to work. Making the timeline track mono and adding tracks in the distribution. See image below.

I am more of a Editor, Colorist and not educated on sound. Trevor talked about making two tracks. In 14.3 I could not make the clip to be 1-6 5.1 and 7-8 2.0, it made two sets of 5.1. I also have no understanding on bussing in Fairlight is there a tutorial on this process?

Thanks for the advise.
