AAF Audio Problem

PostThu Apr 26, 2018 8:25 am

When exporting AAF from DR15b1 and b2 I get separate audio channels but they all the same - not sure if its a copy of the first track or its a downmix.

In DR14.3 this is not the case and I get discreet audio channels with different audio on each.

This could be related to my issue - in DV15b3 I now see an additional text following the name of the audio track. In this case it says " MixL ". Not really sure what it stands for... Could this be causing the above AAF export behaviour?

Have you put stereo clips in a mono timeline track?

Right, looks like "MixL" is metadata. DR seems to be reading it wrong as MixL for all 4 tracks where it should read 1-MixL, 2-MixR, 3-Boom, 4-TrkB as seen in Mediainfo.

Not sure how you got the track metadata to display in Resolve - I can't see that in the metadata window at all. Also can't see how you would embed it in file name on AAF export (presumably you did Avid AAF export - I can't see any other)

Your screen grab is from the Fairlight tab I assume - that seems to append what it thinks the destination of that clip/track is going to be - although it gets a bit confused with adaptive tracks. Typically this is up to L,R,C,LFE,Ls,Rs,Lsr,Rsr for 7.1.

Boris, I have this same issue trying to export an AAF to protools. My clips also have MixL appended to their display names which is set to scene.

Did you manage to solve this issue??

My clips are auto-synced via waveform. In DR14 linked clips do not have "MixL" appended and AAF's open in protools as they should. So this is definitely a DR15b issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

alternatively any suggestions on how to get my DR15b project or sequence back into DR14 would suffice for now.

To clarify this issue, it is not a result of the linking process as the separately recorded audio files display the 'MixL' on all tracks when placed into a timeline straight from the media pool.

see screen grab

The audio was recorded on a Sound Devices 788t. Two other recordings made by different soundies also have 'MixL' appended.

In contrast the the embedded audio straight from a Canon c300 mk2 does not have the 'MixL' appended.

Here is a sample of the audio recordings giving me the 'MixL'. Would be good to know if this is universal or for any reason just a few of us. Cheers.

I ended up sending a sample of the audio clip to Peter Chamberlain from BM and in 15b5 the issue seems to be fixed on the ProTools delivery preset. Exported audio tracks look ok on the Avid preset as well - problem is when importing the AAF back to DR or Adobe Premier it wants to relink to .wav files which are now .mxf so they don't link and stay offline. In DR14 I alway preferred to use Avid preset when exporting AAFs as I could uncheck Video and export audio only.

Yes the protools preset in 15b5 does work. Unfortunately there is still no option to disable the video. I haven't tested fades and levels yet but will do soon.
