Used clips indicator in Media Pool

PostThu Apr 26, 2018 4:54 pm

Hello,
I have a suggestion. Can you add to the Media Pool some kind of indicator which will show which clips are on timeline? I know, that function exists in list view, but I think most people use thumbnail view and this feature would be very helpfull.

Why do you think most people use the thumbnail view?

What I've done recently is bind a shortcut to the 'Flag > Green' menu option. I bound (ALT-SHIFT-Z). Then when I want to see which clips I've already used, I click in the Timeline, press select all (CTRL-A I think), and then do the green tag shortcut. All the used clips get the green tag in the Media Pool in thumbnail view.

For bonus points, create a Smart Bin with the properties of 'MediaPool Properties > Flags > Does Not Contain > Green. Then you'll have a bin with just the unused clips.

I've never seen the 'Usage' attribute have a value in list view. If someone knows how to use it please let me know.

You need to right click and update the usage for it to show which clips are used and how many times they are.

Ok it can be done manually, but if it would be done automatically it would much better. It's just a suggestion.

Hi Marcin

You create 2 smartBins: Everything is done automatically afterwards.
One for all clips used at least once

One for all clips never used.

See the manual for more details but once you know how to work with smartBin, you'll see that it's very powerful. :)

You still have to manually click "Update Usage". I think it's unnecessary waste of time and it's easy to forget about it.

NO. Error.

I'm definitely finding that I have to 'update usage' on one clip for them all to update.

Following the thread, how can I know which in-out pieces of a clip I have already inserted into the timeline?
I have videos of 90m minutes, and I am doing in-out and putting the folders, then I create the project with multiple timelines, but it is impossible to know what in-out I have already inserted in any timeline.

I am having the exact same problem. In Premiere Pro, an icon appears on thumbnails of clips that are being used in a timeline. If they are used in multiple timelines, you can right-click, select 'view in the timeline' and a dropdown list of all the timelines will appear. This would be such a simple yet useful thing to add to Davinci.

Is there a way to see WHERE clips are being used?

Thanks

Just jumping on the "it would also be beneficial to me" bandwagon.

Is this a feature request already? Happy to vote for it.

I'm also looking for a reasonable solution to this.

UPDATE: I found the solution. In the Media Pool, right click on the top column categories (Clip Name, Reel Name, Start TC, etc.) and you will get a drop down menu of information you can include or exclude from the list. Check "Usage" and it will show you what clips have been used and how many times. You can also arrange them in order of ascending or descending.
