Regular crashes

PostMon May 07, 2018 1:20 am

Been crashing every 5 minutes or so, for weeks with this resolve studio beta 2.

Sometimes a crash, once in 50 crashes it's a system lockup.

attached are my logs. Thanks very much!
upload is too large apparently, so here's a dropbox link; https://www.dropbox.com/s/ffrdl0483fhgh ... h.zip?dl=0

I have the exact same problem. Uploaded my logs to the forum last Wed evening. What's your system/os config? I'm on a late 2013 Mac Pro (trashcan), 6 core/16mb, AMD FP500, High Sierra. Wondering if this is a config problem or just random code problem. I've uninstalled/reinstalled 15b02 twice, didn't help.

I have windows 10 Intel Core i7-4700MQ @ 2.40GHz . 16 gig ram

from 2015 i guess.

Sounds like a programming glitch. It feels like an out of memory problem. It seems to build up if i switch panels.
How about you?

It would appear that the Intel HD4600 GPU is not adequate for the task.

I did notice that the crashes could be related to cumulative activity. I can work for 10 minutes adding clips, color correcting, whatever, then a crash. I actually left the program active overnight, and it was still working when I went on this morning. So, more activity related than time related?

My start-up disk (the puny 256gb SSD they shipped with the trashcan) only has 33gb free, but my caches are all set to a Thunderbolt raid with terabytes free.

I have 16gb RAM, which should be enough. Going to free up some space on the start-up drive, try increasing the RAM devoted to DVR and making sure memory hogs like PhotoShop aren't running in the background.

Good luck!

Perhaps Resolve 15 is more demanding on system resources. I am working for hours on 3 camera multicam timelines between 2 and 3 hours long. Grading, shared nodes, Fusion Ultra Keyer . . . and no crashes.

My system is a dual 6 core 24 thread Xeon server @ 3.5GHz with 96GB of ECC RAM, system SSD 512GB (340 free) and 6TB of SSDs for projects.

Only the Fusion integration seems to be locking up Resolve when I start learning Fusion and play around a lot.
Other than that, Resolve is stable.

The question for me is, Why can't Resolve come up with an error message that explains this?
"Out of resources" or "Crummy memory card." I could even help write them.

How much time would THAT save everyone?
I really don't know how to describe something that simple.

Udo
Many thanks for your experience with this. It could be a resource issue, for sure. In my case, the pieces I've been working on so far are single camera, less than four minutes long with nothing (Fusion, power windows, NR, crazy grades etc) remotely exotic. If 15 can't grade a single-camera clip four minutes long on a Mac Pro, that's a problem, as there are many users who don't have SSD raids or 96gb of RAM. Let's hope it's some bug in the code that they will figure out.

I'm also having crashes. I was able to import about 20 clips, but as soon as I even click on one it shuts down.

My Resolve version is 15.0.0B.037

My PC specs are in my signature.

*EDIT:
I'm not allowed to post URLs, but I have the Resolve log uploaded to google drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Dylan

Run Windows System Information, and do a File - Save. Put the .NFO file that gets created onto your file sharing site and send a link.

That's very likely not a similar problem.

You have 3 dissimilar GPU's. I would need to see Resolve logs to see how they are being used.

How many displays do you have, and what are they connected to?

One display (laptop internal), with Resolve set to CUDA, and to use the 1080Ti only.

I uploaded a log in the other thread. I'll add it here if you'd prefer.

My Kreskin powers are weak tonight. Maybe you could provide a link to said thread?

Cachecow:
Having better luck now: in settings I turned OFF auto save and load all timelines. I haven't had a chance to test it on a longer piece, but did a couple of short (:30s) piece today without a crash. Hallelujah ... will post an update once I try something longer.

Hope this helps

Steve Blount, i'm glad it works for you. I can render a 2 track video all day long. anything more complicated crashes. I wonder why it's only this program that crashes, if my video card is to blame.
I can't think of any reasonable explanation for that excuse. A program shouldn't crash ever. It might run slow or throw up an error if properly handled. I feel like I got a brush off answer.

Here's to Beta 3.
