Imported video but its only 9 seconds long should be 1 hour

PostThu May 24, 2018 4:34 pm

I've been importing old 8mm family videos using Final Cut Pro. However, these files are large and unwieldy. I ended up using Resolve because you can't export individual clips from a Final Cut Pro project. Additionally, the automatic scene detection with Resolve allows me to split up these videos so much faster, efficiently, and correctly.

I got really excited about it and experimented with Resolve last night, but when I showed up to work (where all my capturing devices/videos are) I was unable to actually use the clips I've imported.

The video files range from 10 minute clips to 1 hour clips, but they all show to be about 9 seconds long. I think the most common length I've seen on these videos were 09:29 seconds long.

Here are screenshots of the video mismatch. Exact same files, showing way different times

What are you using to capture the film and into what format? (its not clear if the DVC-Pro is the capture format or an intermediate)
Can you select other formats with this capture device?

Final cut Pro to import from a 8mm DV video camera via firewire. It doesn't allow me to select the type of video when importing from a DV source.

I'm honestly not too familiar with codecs and such (just getting into this so I can import old family videos)

But here is the breakdown that Compressor gives me:

Maybe there is some break/discontinuity there.
Try exporting this file back to DV and importing this to Resolve.

My solution was to use compressor to re-encode into a PRORES. This is not a happy task. These files are over 25gb and this takes a long time

I eventually gave up hoping to return once a fix had been implemented but it seems this is not going to happen

WHY does it say it supports the video, but not. iMovie, Quicktime and FCPX are all able to do this
