Imported video is rotated by 90 degrees

PostWed May 30, 2018 8:28 pm

I've imported a 4K video (3840x2160px) from my Yi action camera to Resolve. It is however rotated 90 degrees to the right. Why is that? VLC and all other players on my computer play the video just fine in landscape, the way it was recorded. Also, is there some switch or something to disable the rotation? How do I rotate the video without losing quality?

I have also got the same problem using the same camera. Was any solution found to this problem?

It’s possible that camera has a bug where the video metadata has width and height swapped or there is a setting in the camera that allows portrait video. Turn off the setting when shooting landscape.

I have the same issue, I did not find a fix in Resolve.

I resolve this by using VLC to convert the file.
Open VLC, Media, Convert/Save
Add the file you want
Click Convert / Save in the bottom menu option
setting Convert,
I chose profile Video -h.264 + mp3 (mp4), click the wrench symbol
encapsulation mp4/mov
video codec
check video, and check keep original video track
Audio codec
check audio, and check keep original audio track
click save
set a destination file
click Start

This rewrote the video, using the same video quality as far as I can tell. Import the new video into Resolve and it appears normal, not sideways.

Same happens for me with footage from the Yi action cam. It started in Beta 4, tried Beta 6 and still the same. Reverted back to Beta 3 and works as normal for now. Something changed in Beta 4?

I just bought 2 Yi 4K plus and have the same issue.

I am on the free version of Resolve 15.0.0B.046 (until my BMPCC4K arrives).

How do I fix this? I really don't want to fix this using video conversion software on multiple files everyday. This will really slow down my workflow.

Never mind, installed newer version of Resolve seems to have fixed this.

Just tried to import CR2's from a Canon 5D2.

Same problem.

ISSUE:
+) Photo Rotations are ignored by Resolve.

Two attachments : One shows Resolve NOT rotating (ie not working). The other shows Final Cut (which does rotate the images).
