Feature wish: Convolution Sharpening

PostWed Jun 13, 2018 8:58 am

Hiya,

I have done a lot of tests with sharpening of late. The best result I got was by
- First using Convolution Sharpening. This sharpening can "fix" out of focus areas and also increase sharpness in general
- Secondly using Frequency Sharpening. Neat Video for example.

I have not been able to find a way of doing convolution filtering in Davinci. Premiere has a simpler version built in but it would be nice if Davinci made an even more powerful version.

You get the best quality by using an algorithm called Adaptive Richardsson-Lucy Convolution Sharpening.
There is an article with image examples here:

Would be great if we could have such powerful sharpening in Davinci.
Best wishes,
Andreas

Did you play with the sharpening in the new "Super Scale" function?

That sounds useful. Does it also work when you do not rescale footage? I will be sure to check it out.

If it doesn't, have a look at the New Continuum Magic Sharp Filter, you can buy that alone without the whole Continuum. It works well in Resolve.

Did you try Paul Dore's "frequency seperation" OFX?

There are Sharpen tools in Resolve FX. Please check them out! Studio version only I think, but I presume you have that.

Hi Rohit. Yes I have tried the ones in 14 Studio. They are nice but I could not get the same result as with convolution filter in Image Plus that I use for photos for example. What method are they based on?
The Magic Sharp Filter plugin gave really nice results. Paul Dore's plugins seems really interesting as well.
