Green flash frame, VariCam LT footage

PostTue Jun 19, 2018 10:15 pm

In DaVinci Resolve Studio 14, I'm getting green flash frames in my export video at the cut points between 24fps footage and 60fps footage shot on my VariCam LT (AVC Intra 4K). Has anybody else experienced this problem, and if so, what was your solution or workaround? Thanks!

Please tell us about your machine, GPU and VRAM in particular. I've seen such faults with other codecs on insufficient hardware.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

See if it helps to drop your render speed way down, maybe to 4fps or even 2fps. These H.264-based formats are very demanding in terms of CPU power. I have had the green glitch happen at the beginning of a sequence, but not on a cut. But in general, the client didn't change speed.

I'm getting exactly the same problem with several projects with footage from a sony F5 and an A7Sii - the other camera material seems fine. Using Resolve 14.3.1.1018 on a MacPro system with plenty of power and render speed. Green flash for one frame, almost always at an edit point, sometimes I can see it in the timeline, other times I can't, and the green flash is not always on the same cut points. Standard 23.97fps 1920x1080 timeline, 4k slog3.cine footage at 23.97fps.

I also saw exactly the same thing with F55 slog3 footage on a similar system at a client's facility last week. Looking at the footage in Quicktime it is clean, but green flashes are there in Edit, Color and Deliver. If I render the footage out to ProRes 4444 and re-import it the flashes disappear - but that isn't a realistic solution. Going down to rendering at 1fps made no difference, changing drives made no difference, same with clearing caches, changing cache locations and most of the other tricks.

My final solution was to render the sequence to DPX files, go through these and pick out the green flashes (about 10 in an hour long program) in a DPX viewer, cut in the frame before as a duplicate over these, and then bring the DPX files into a new sequence and render out... no green flashes but a real pain.

I'm also currently experiencing random green flash frames on a project with AVC Intra 4k footage from a VariCam.

I see them on renders in the delivery page and in the timeline cache.

I don't remember having this issue with source footage of different codecs.

Arri RAW/Prores and RED 4k all play fine without green flash frames.
