Deleting ( Removing ) a effect from between 2 clips

PostFri Jun 22, 2018 8:55 pm

After I insert a Video Transition between two clips and decide that I don't like the effect, how do I get ride of that transidtion? I have tried everything that I know (including deleting the clips and then trying to delete the transition), but nothing works for me. What's the trick that I am missing. Great program except for the hidden secrets.

I guess it was a matter of not having the timeline spread out wide enough and being a novice looking for a more complicated answer. Thanks.

How do you remove a transition. When I try to select a the transition I always end up deleting the whole video clip. There should be an index to the manual so that it doesn't take days to find an answer to simple questions like this.

Expand the timeline so you can see the transition in more detail. Right click on the transition and select delete in the menu that appears.

Or click on the transition so it is highlighted with the white box and press the delete key, perhaps even the back space key.

The suggestions presented aren't working for me.

I have expanded the timeline. The transitions are not selectable, therefore I can't delete them. If I select it or right click on it, it selects the entire clip, not the transition.

What else should I try?

Thanks

I have the same issue. I shorten two clips that were linked with a transition. Now, I can't see the transition and therefore, cannot select it. I just see the beginning of a screen box in green. How do I delete this hidden transition? I'm on Resolve 15 Studio.

This strange behavior is still present in the Edit page of 18.5.1 - when you select a transition and click "Delete", it butchers the whole timeline. However, if you Undo it, the timeline reverts to its previous state but the transition is gone.

To save yourself from a heart attack, it turns out that selecting the transition and using a keyboard shortcut (default is Shift + Backspace), will result in intended behavior, that is deleting the transition without any surprises.

I'm not seeing anything weird here, Maciej.

(Studio 18.5.1 on Windows 10.)

Can you post some Steps to Reproduce?

Certainly. I'm on a relatively busy timeline (4x A, 8x V). Linked Selection disabled.

1) I select a transition I want to delete (orange highlight JUST on the transition and nothing else).
2) Right-click, select Delete from the menu.
3) Everything, including the selected transition, gets decimated.

After a while of experimenting, it turns out that only the tracks that were disabled from the Auto Track Selector are not affected by this peculiar behavior.

As mentioned before, using a keyboard shortcut to delete the transition keeps the timeline intact while removing the transition.

This is just a small nuisance in comparison with other things that could majorly improve the whole UX such as:

The common denominator in fixing these is to make the timeline as predictable and bulletproof as possible as well as less susceptible to human (and software) error.

When you highlight a transition in the timeline use the Backspace and not the Delete key to remove it. The difference between them is the Backspace key will remove an item, but the Delete key will also Ripple Delete in the timeline.

Thank you but this is essentially what I did. To be extra clear, I was referring to the Delete option, not the keyboard button.

Clicking this essentially causes Ripple Delete:

If you want to use this option, make sure you don't also have a range marked

I can't duplicate this. Only the transition gets deleted.

I’m using 18.5 on windows 11 PC.

I tried the same method to delete multiple video transitions and when I right click on any transition selected and choose delete from the pop up window everything is deleted on my timeline. An undo(ctrl Z) brings everything back except the transitions! There has to be a better way!!

Not sure what you want. I have only one timeline and one project. This works for other projects of mine but again only one timeline in each project.

If it works in other projects, that could mean that this project somehow went weird and you may want to consider a salvage operation.
