Delete multiple clips from Hard Disk?

PostMon Jul 02, 2018 5:17 pm

Hi there,

I tagged all the Clips for a project. I would like to delete the "Red flagged" clips from the hard drive. I created a smart bin to see all the clip. I know I can individually open the file location of each clip..

Is there a function to delete all the Selected clips from the Drive at once?

Cheers

Hi,

From the media pool or the storage pool?
Please specify (it does not have the same impact) :)

Hello,

Go Media Storage=> right clic on a clip => select "delete Permanently"

Next a popup ask : Are you sure?????

2_are_you_sure.jpg

IF YES => and If all is OK...

Hope this help. :)

use smart bin to isolate the flagged clips in media pool and then, one by one, use context menu to "reveal in media storage" once the clip is revealed in the media storage use context menu to "delete permanently". From what I know there is no way to permanently delete from media pool.

Thank you for your answer. So there is NO option to delete multiple clips from the disk.

I think it's very unwise to do this from the Media Pool. I think you're much better off doing this in the operating system directly.

One reason Media Management exists is so that you wind up with all the clips actually in the project, but no additional clips that are not in a timeline. To me, this is a better philosophy of getting rid of what you don't need -- plus it still preserves the original material on a different drive by leaving it alone.

To me, Permanent Deletion is a last resort you should only use under very special circumstances.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Well, for some people this might not be the case, but for me hard drive space is money. Since I shoot everything in RAW, I'd rather delete outtakes / bad clips than degrading to a lower codec. So being able to delete multiple clips from the NLE would be much appreciated...this for instance is possible in Adobe Lightroom or even smarter in Capture One Pro: you can transfer the files to a trash folder from within the software. This shouldn't be too hard to implement in Resolve.

I am getting same issue of hard disk and also getting the error code 0x3e9(1001) in my system. I also try on fix error code 0x3e9(1001) for the help purpose but did not get any response.

Hi any new feature that allow us to do this?
I agree with Janis, creating a bin or a track with all the crap/unusable shots to delete all of them at once from the hard drive is way more logical than delete them one by one from the operation system.
That feature exists in premiere and is something that I really miss in davinci.

what I started doing:
after first selection and dropping the good clips into my timeline, I use File->Media Management and "Copy only used media files" (or move... if you have a good backup :)
or even "trim used media with 5 frame handles" to only use the cut-out pieces from one clip
also check the "Relink to new files" and your project is pointing to a smaller media pool...

hope that helps,

Mike

create a new timeline from the red flagged clips, then with media management, move used clips from timeline. then delete the timeline, close the project, and delete the moved files from the OS.

There is no way to do it and I think there should be a way to do it. For those who think that this is unsafe then don't use it, there are lots of way to work, I keep everything duplicate on other drives, so permanently delete from my working drives doesn't really mean permanently.. I think there should be a feature that allow us to do that special when working on huge projects where we want to save drive space.

Anyway Hector show us a great solution here! you are genious! I will try that next time.
Thanks
