Recommended New Monitor for DaVinci Resolve

PostThu Jul 19, 2018 8:57 pm

My trusted NEC Multisync PS271W is on its way out.

So I'm looking for a replacement - with DVR in mind.

COMPUTER:

Current: MacBook Pro 2012 16GB RAM 500 GB SSD

Planned upgrade to the next gen MacPro when it comes out.

WORK:

Current:

Color critical fashion still work and fashion video for the web. Film/Video work is increasing quite fast. Currently all shot in 1080p 24p .

Future:

Video is an important part of my future - especially as I have a lot of experience in screenwriting. End of the year I will shoot a short film for a client in 4K, most likely on a RED camera.

4K seems to become the new standard - any way I could plan for this, too? I might move away from shooting video with a DSLR and acquire a specialized camera for video.

TWO MONITOR SETUP?

I'm used to a single monitor setup - would you recommend a 2-monitor setup? I could keep the current 27" monitor as a monitor for the panels, and buy the new monitor for the viewing
of the color corrected content only.

NEW MONITOR:

NEC or Eizo 24"? There are versions that you calibrate with an i1Display Pro and others, costing more than twice, with hardware calibration built into the monitor.

What's your take on this?

High end monitors for 5000 - 7000$ are currently not in the budget.

Eizo is good, eg. ColorEdge CG247X
You need GUI monitor and video preview one, which will be driven from BM card.

Thank you for your recommendation of this monitor:

There is a second monitor that has hardware calibration as well, and the same contrast range:

What is the difference between the two?

Compared to these two, would this one not work, and why?

CG247X is the newest, CG2420 is "the same", but older model and last one is CS series which is 1 level lower in quality within Eizo range.
If you can afford go with latest model.

Maybe get a superwide for the GUI and one of the recommended Eizos for checking color if you have limited space. If space and money allows, recommendation would be three.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

I think the 27" is enough to have all the panels open.

How much load is running two displays on the graphics card? DaVinci Resolve 14.3 is already very demanding for the MacBook Pro - would I get problems editing because running two displays would cause too much graphics card power?

Note: REAL Names are an absolute requirement here, lest you have yourself banned and posts deleted Sir.

Note also, you haven't specified for us, which model number you have re: the Macbook Pro nor its GPU type and GPU RAM size.
