Planar tracking in middle of clip

PostWed Aug 01, 2018 10:55 am

Good afternoon from \.ch

I just came across DVR as I was looking for alternatives to Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere and others...

Currently using kdenlive on Linux for hobbyist use but figured out that the alpha mask tool is too limited for object tracking and sticking text to it..

I've seen few tutorials on using the planar tracker...but seems all are based on using the tracker for a whole clip..

Can I use a planar tracker, or better yet, several trackers in the same clip?
If I move the timeline to the start of the tracking I want to have it complains about "The reference frame is currently set to 0 and you are trying to track from frame 377."

When I set it to start from frame 377 as in this case, it ends at frame 378....

thanks in advance
richard

Make yourself familiar with Fusion, it's much better for this.

Agreed... but be aware that most of the advanced tracking options do require the studio versions -- which (IMHO) are well worth the money.

Well I intend to get me DVS for xmas anyway...but what confuses me is that on one side it mentions that Fusion is included, but also that Fusion is an own software...

Also with both it says "starts from $299"....didn't find any comparison table to which version includes what...

Also the Apple store has only the free and the $299 DVS version...

So what does dxactly mean "starts from 299" mean?

There is a standalone version of Fusion, Fusion 9. Resolve 15 now includes a different version built in, it has a different interface and capabilities than the standalone version, but they are very similar. If you want the full studio version of Fusion 9, it also costs $299.

Ah thanks for the clarification...

But it still confuses me what the "starting at $299" means for DaVinci Resolve Studio...makes one believe that there are more expensive versions of it...

What is the difference in features to the Apple store version for $299?
If none then I will pick the Apple store version as there are no online stores for Switzerland.

Don't, the Apple Store version has some annoying limitations!

If you buy Fusion, the license will also allow you to run Resolve Studio.

Just read about some limitations due to sandboxing in app store applications...

Where did you read that Fusion license also works for Resolve Studio? I see both listed as individual software for each $299, which is still a huge bargain compared to adobe. And since I dumped Adobe CC already for Affinity software, the missing video part would be just five months of subscription ;o)

Read that many people prefer the dongle version as it allows to work on different platforms/locations.

Okay...found the comparison table for regular and app version here:

But back to the original question (o;

When doing the tracker in Fusion....do I need a separate clip for each tracking caption I want to show?
The video is a one shot showing several isles in a store where I want to popup captions describing some products.
