Strange omission... Moving clips up/down

PostWed Aug 15, 2018 2:52 pm

It seems that the command usually mapped to Opt (alt) Up/Down and would move selected clips up (creating new tracks) and down (overwriting). - is gone...

And worst.. though it has been available for a long time and extremely practical in flattening timelines preparing them for grading, It seems (unless I really missed something) that this function does not have a menu item therefore can't be mapped :shock:

It gets a bit stranger.

The command comes back when switching to the Premiere Pro keyboard (which I am not interested in using), to the same shortcut...

Noticed this since beta 4 or 5 I think.

Is anyone else getting the same behavior?

I'm on a OSX 10.12.6

It's working here for me in 15 on Windows 10 Pro (1709) using the default Resolve shortcuts.

Though strangely, this particular shortcut doesn't show up in Keyboard Mapping.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Thanks Jim :)

And you're on Resolve keys, right?

It doesn't show up cause it doesn't exist in menus.

The command isn't gone. There's just a bug (which I reported ages ago) in which having anything mapped to the unmodified up and down arrows causes commands which use those arrows to not work. The default Resolve mapping for prev/next clip is unmodified up and down arrows, I think. If you remap those to something else (I use control-up/down) then opt-up/down will work for moving clips up and down.

Thanks Robert.

It did fix it.. somewhat.

I was aware of that bug, but it used to occur when you remapped certain things, not in the default setup.
In V14 I can both move between cuts using up/down and move clips up/down using Opt+ arrows... There shouldn't be any conflict here.

I think the real bug here is that such an important command can't be mapped cause it doesn't exist....

Seems like the bug still has not been fixed - There still is no way to change Move Clips Up or Move Clips Down from the default alt+up, alt+down. The command does not show up on the list.

To anyone who is listening at Blackmagic - would be great if you would fix this.

Thx

Hey all, just ran into the same issue. Here’s a workaround:

Resolve allows you to save and export your keyboard shortcuts as a text file. You can open this in a text editor and manually change the shortcut values. The fields in question are “editMoveClipsUp” and “editMoveClipsDown”

To assign multiple shortcuts to the same field, simply add a vertical bar ( “ | “ ) between entires.

I kept the default values and typed in a left-handed shortcut for each:

editMoveClipsUp := Alt+Up | Alt+W
editMoveClipsDown := Alt+Down | Alt+S

Save the file and then import it back into Resolve.

Annoying that this bug still exists, but at least this workaround only needs to be done once.

Was working fine with Resolve Studio 18.1.2 and macOS 13.1 without modifying the default keys. Weird.

Starting from 18.1, the keyboard customisation dialog should allow you to inspect/override shortcuts for this action.
