Applying a transition to a text clip

PostTue Sep 18, 2018 9:07 pm

Here is how I work in Premiere (and cannot find an analog in Resolve):

* Main video on track 1
* Text layer on track 2
* Apply a transition (like a push) to the text clip on track 2, which pushes the text on screen, not affecting the main video.
* I cannot figure out how to do this simple thing in Resolve. When I add a transition to the text clip, it applies the transition to the whole video.

I edit a lot of online courses and am constantly bringing text in and out. I feel like I'm missing something basic here.

it's a bug, you should use position keyframes instead.

If you are using a clip that didn't have an alpha channel I'd suggest using slide and not push as this would give the result you want.

If you turn the Text clip into a compound clip, I bet it will work.

Glad it's not just me! I just posted about this quirk a couple days ago. Some, but not all transitions exhibit this behavior.

When I created a compound clip, the clip lost its alpha channel, meaning the compound clip didn’t show the video layer beneath.

How are we supposed to use Resolve professionally on a daily basis without being able to manipulate text layers like this?

Yeah, there is an additional issue where the compound clip drops its transparency -- the alpha channel renders as black. There is another thread about this issue which was reported during 15 Beta.

Use fusion or keyframes?

I guess you just have to learn new ways of working or go back to Premiere, its not entirely reasonable to expect all software to behave the same way you are used to
