Markers in list view: Why only on clips?

PostMon Sep 24, 2018 8:54 am

Why can I use makers only on clips in a way that makes sense and is actually useful?
Markers show up under clips in the media pool in list view. But if you use markers on timelines, they do not show up like that at all in the media pool. Why is this not handled consistently? The same goes for multiclips and compound clips.

Edit:
Meanwhile I found out, that adding Markers to a timeline in the Source Viewer is not the same as adding markers in a opened timeline. If you add them in the source viewer, they also show up in the media pool index.
So, basically, you can add markers to the "source" timeline and to the timeline iteself. If you add them whilst having a timeline open, however, they are pretty much useless, since thery are not showing up in the media pool.

How does this make any sense, whatsoever?

It seems that this is still the case…
I have a timeline that I marked while having it opened in the record viewer and now I am trying to jump to the markers while having it opened in the source viewer but Resolve is not showing them in the source viewer.

Did anybody find a workaround for this?

Thanks, Tilmann

Clip markers display in the media pool with a little triangle which will show them all as a list when the media pool is in list view not icon view. Timeline markers don't display like this in the media pool.

I checked and Philipp is correct in his original post. The question is whether this is by design or is an oversight by BMD.

I see the problem now.

If the marker is added to the clip in a timeline, it doesn't show up for that clip in the bins.

Not liking that.

This is still happening, it seems to work in one direction. Creating a clip marker in the media pool will create an a clip marker when dragged into the timeline, but that is it. It's an instance of the marker, editing it doesn't impact the media pool clip marker. My particular issue is creating a sync marker for an extremely quiet waveform in the media tab. I can bring the volume up in the timeline and do it, but not in the media pool.

It is coherent: a “timeline marker” belong to the timeline, not the clip….

I believe the issue discussed here has morphed from

“markers on a clip show up in the media pool but markers ON a timeline don’t”

to

“markers on a clip instance don’t show up in the master clip”

The latter is intentional. I believe the former is an oversight/implemented bit of functionality.

I have clips with lots of markers. When I click on a marker, I want it to show me where it is in the clip. But it doesn't work. To access the marker, I have to double-click on it, but then I only see the marker and not where it is in the clip. Can anyone help me?

It sounds like you’re saying that, with a clip in the timeline that has a marker on it, you’d like to see where in the full clip the marker lies.

The F (for match Frame) command should do this for you.

Hello,
Thanks for the follow-up. I'm back to editing. I'm not working with a timeline but rather with the viewer. When I click on a clip marker in the media storage (in list mode), I would like Davinci to show me in the viewer where this marker is in the whole clip. I've tried the "match frame" option but it doesn't seem to be the right solution since I'm not in a timeline. Thanks for clarifying.

From the Media page, if I set the clips in Media Pool to List view, drop down the Markers list for a clip and click on one, that clip is loaded into the Viewer at the Marker position.

+1
Sounds like the OP wants this to work similarly from the Media Pool in the Edit Page. I concur.

Hello,
sorry for the delay in my return, I'm not always in front of my computer. The problem remains. I'd like Davinci to show me where the marker is in the whole clip. Is this possible?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I finally found it. You have to click on the three little dots in the viewer window. At the bottom of the drop-down menu appears Marker. This brings up a list of markers associated with the clip. When you click on one, it takes you to where it is in the clip. Eureka!
Have a nice day.
