network sound library metadata question

So i have a lot of sound effects stored on my network RAID-system. also alot of sub-sub-sub folders.

it was easy to connect the root including the subfolders in resolve with the press of a button, really great, love it already.

when im looking for specific sound effects, i can get them within seconds, or at least, when i remember the file names correctly.

but for example, a folder is called ''ambience'' and contains completely irrelevant filenames like ''space'', or ''alone''.

is there a way to give all those files a description/genre so it shows up when i search for ''ambience''?

i know you can add metadata after importing the files, but will they be ''baked'' in the files itself?

Resolve's Sound Library feature set does not currently extend to metadata management, as it merely reads existing metadata embedded within the source audio file (currently limited to File Name metadata. Description and other standard descriptive metadata embedded within the BEXT, LIST-INFO, or iXML chunks are not read).

Resolve's Clip Metadata panel does not inject metadata in to source files either. Any Metadata added within the panel is currently only accessible within Resolve, and will not be injected in to the audio file when exporting from Resolve.

Third party tools (e.g. SoundMiner or Basehead), are still required to edit existing metadata, or to inject new metadata in to source audio files.

i've downloaded this app: https://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html

there's a bunch different tags i can add to the file with this app, like comment, mood, genre, and 100 more categories, but none of these are recognized by resolve so far.

but as you said ''Description and other standard descriptive metadata embedded within the BEXT, LIST-INFO, or iXML chunks are not read''
That implies it can't be done.

but on the other hand, there's a clear dropdown menu with ''description'' to search for, so i guess there has to be some way to add something useful?

While you are able to populate those Broadcast Wave file chunks with metadata using a 3rd party solution, Resolve does not currently read those chunks.

The Sound Library within Resolve 15, currently only reads the File name.

It’s still good practice to embed as much descriptive metadata as possible, when Resolve begins reading those chunks in future versions.

wow same problem here... a HUGE LOT sound FX library, files has names like "0005658-9.mp3" and metadata is ok on description and categories... but media library on Davinci is actually useless!
i hope Blackmagick fix the library and database to read metadata from WAV, MP3 (actually buggy), and other files ( ogg, FLAC, etc...)
You are no more that odd and sexy software for hollywood experts, now you are the most sexy, powefull and POPULAR software for EVERYBODY! so go go go! fix and aplly popular formats and workflows and make your "best software war" make sense!

abrazos y saludos desde Colombia!

Quite a few SFX editors and mixers I know use Soundminer, and effects libraries like Sound Ideas actually ship with embedded Soundminer metadata already in place (as part of BWF files), which is readable in Pro Tools. It would be possible to add that feature to a future version of Fusion in Resolve, so one hopes that will happen someday.
