Resolve 15.x crashes on loading waveform monitor

Hello,

I've installed and run Resolve 15.1 successfully the last time 3 weeks ago.
Today, I couldn't start it, it would always crash at loading while showing "loading waveform monitor".

I've uninstalled it, tried a couple of hours all different versions of resolve 15.x. (also 15.1.2) non of them worked. I've also always cleared the folders under users->AppData and in ProgramData.

Out of curiosity, I've tried installing Resolve 14 and that worked!
As a last action, I've updated my graphics driver and disabled iGPU, sadly without any luck.

Since all the Windows NFO system errors are in German, I can't really tell what's going on there.

Resolve logs indicate it thinks there are 2 R9 380 cards in the system, but the NFO only shows one. Did you have 2 GPUs installed, or just one?

What AND Radeon software package do you have installed?

Do you know if there is a way to switch the NFO information over to English? Unfortunately I haven't found anything on the internet.

No, I have just installed one graphics card. The Intel i5 additionally does have an iGPU, but I tried to disable and enable that, without any luck. When I catched the log files, the iGPU was disabled.

The strange thing also is, that there weren't any hardware modifications done since I've used Resolve the last time successfully (I was on vacation in between). The only change I've made was to install the software for my new Canon camera.

Could a windows update be the issue?

Update: for the graphics card, I was using a 17.x driver before with resolve, to eliminate errors, I've updated to the latest version Adrenalin Edition 18.10.1. Unfortunately it didn't help.

I just have the same problem. From April 2018 up to last week I worken on serveral video-projects. Yesterday I tried to start DaVinci resolve again. It crashed half a second after showing the "loading waveform ..". I deinstall the old version tried zu install the actual version from today but I cannot start davincie resolve. It crashes like the former version.

Does anyone have an idea?
I am really stuck here and cannot get Resolve to start in any way which is not very good...

Unfortunately, since you cleared the folders in ProgramData, there is no historical Resolve log data to compare when it was working to now, to see what might have changed.

It might be worth putting 14.3.1 back in, to verify it still works, and then 15.1.2, and then logs.

Not sure how related it is but on MacOs having 2 discrete Nvidia cards in a Mac Pro cheesegrater would stop Resolve from loading. It got stuck at the loading waveform monitor. Removing the GeForce 120 fixes it. It wasn't connected to a monitor and probably wasn't being ignored by Resolve properly, as I assume the low specs aren't supported.

Davinci 15.1.2. MacOs 10.13.6, Gtx 980.

So, I think I found the issue.
Resolve 15.x seems to have an issue with the current branch of the AMD graphics drivers Adrenalin.
Resolve 14.x still works perfectly fine with the latest AMD Adrenalin drivers.
So I guess it is a bug in Resolve 15.x.

I've completely reinstalled my PC (always fun) to see if Resolve works after that. And it did.
But as soon as I've installed the AMD graphics drivers, Resolve refused to load as described.

As the only thing I've installed were the graphics drivers, I completely uinstalled them and tried to start Resolve with the support drivers of windows 10 and it started.

So I've tried to install the last AMD drivers of the old Crimson branch, started Resolve and it works!
But as soon as I update to one of the Adrenalin drivers, Resolve stops working for me.

It still isn't a good solution, but it is one solution.

If anyone has the same issue, try uninstalling the Adrenalin drivers and install the last Crimson drivers (I use 17.11.4).

Maybe that helps someone.

At least, the drivers are a little bit more up to date.

More and more users are reporting the issue with AMD Adrenaline drivers and Resolve 15.x.

Any updates, if the bug is confirmed by Blackmagic?
Does the Studio version have the same issue?

I am having the same issue. In my case I am running a Vega 56 and the oldest driver is from 3-12 and allows Resolve to load and work seemingly fine. I would love to have this fixed.

I am having an issue with Davinci Resolve Studio 15.1.

When I start Resolve Studio it crashes after the splash screen, after "loading waveform monitor"
This happens with Resolve Studio 15.1, 15.1.2, 15.2.

A Deck link 4K is installed, Desktop Video 10.11.4 is installed.
The machine is Windows 10, i7 6900k, GTX 1080 (gpu driver 416.16)

I've tried uninstalling (via control panel) and installing again (all three versions).
I've tried changing the USB port of the Dongle license.

If I change the Compatibility settings on the Resolve.exe to "Windows 8", Resolve Studio will open after Splash Screen, but only after several minutes of waiting.

Is there something I am missing?
Should Resolve Studio run optimally in "Compatibility Mode"?

attached is a log file retrieved after fresh install and running Resolve.exe without having set "compatibility mode": resulting in crash.

Provide a Windows System Information .NFO file.

Also, all the logs in the file you sent were with 15.1. Would be good to see a log with 15.2 installed.

In compatibility mode, does Resolve get to the Project Manager window? If so, can you select the Disk db, and see what happens?

In compatibility mode, I am able to select Disk DB in the Project Manager window and select and open a project, as well as create a new project and the main Resolve window will open.
What issue can the PostgreSQL database have? Any way to remedy this?

In the Database area of Project Manager, right click the PostgreSQL db and select Optimize.

I opted to clean install Windows instead. It works now.
What does the PostgreSQL optimize function do precisely?
My PostgreSQL database is used by several others, would this optimization disturb their work? or does it only influence the local machine?

This is a great post and very helpful. Had exactly the same issue.

Would be a good idea for BlackMagic to post which versions of the Adrenaline work with the latest version of Resolve. I was VERY frustrated by this issue and this post fixed it. Thanks!
