fusion 9 registration with resolve 15 activation key

My understanding was purchasing resolve 15 would allow me to activate fusion 9 as well as resolve 15 with the same activation key, however when I launch fusion 9 studio it says:

"Blackmagic Fusion Studio could not find a valid license.
...
Serial Number: No Dongle Found"

We didn't purchase a resolve 15 dongle we purchased a activation key, and fusion doesn't have any place to put the activation key in.

Am I missing something here?

As I understand things, this was a one-way street.

If you purchased a Fusion 9 license it would also work for Resolve 15 -- but not vice-versa.

Hmm any chance this will change? Seems odd that we have to purchase a fusion license because we purchased resolve first, but if we had purchased fusion first we get both.

We went with resolve because of the fusion integration but it doesn't seem as stable or as fast as fusion standalone. I was hoping to comp some shots in fusion standalone and only use resolve/ fusion if absolutely necessary.

Resolve and Fusion are great programs but the purchasing/ activation process feels like it's from the 90s. Even buying resolve 15 with an activation key we had to order a physical package from a reseller. Where's direct purchase and online activation?? We were going to buy a few additional seats and get some more editors/ compositors on this project we are currently working on but the project would be finished and shipped by the time we got the activation keys/ dongles in the mail.

I can't think of any other programs you need to order physical copies of any more...

I have to agree with that... however, when I ordered my Studio verson, the dealer here in New Zealand shipped the product *very* quickly by overnight courier so it wasn't really all that bad.

Could you just clarify the options again, I just bought a Resolve Studio activation key license but could I have bought a Fusion Studio license which would have licensed both for me? Is Fusion dongle only so that would be one machine at a time (as opposed to my Resolve Studio activation key which can activate two)?

Yes, you could have bought a stand alone Fusion 9 dongle and it would work for Resolve 15 as well.

Yes, the dongle has to be installed for the software to run. You can install the software on as many systems as desired, but only the system with the dongle connected will currently run.

Thanks for confirming that. Stupid of me not to have double checked first. As it is, having the Resolve Studio on two machines is proving to be quite handy.

I recently tested a 10 seat Fusion dongle and it worked with Resolve.

Yes, it was plugged into the Resolve machine. Resolve licensing from that dongle is not going to work over the network, like Fusion does.

The dongle is only going to work for Resolve if its plugged into the machine Resolve is running on.
