New Mac Mini plus eGPU Pro

PostThu Nov 08, 2018 8:36 am

The new Mac mini has intrigued me. So has the new eGPU pro.
The new Mac Mini can go upto to 6 Cores with 64 GB Ram.
Will it run Resolve now with eGPU Pro?
If it does, it can be a very good solution.
What do people think about it?

I think I'd throw it out the window the moment the new Mac Pros come out in the spring. (But that's just my opinion.)

If you can wait, I'd second that.
But if you need it NOW, yes, it'll be a reasonable solution if you want to stay with Mac OS. It depends on your incoming codecs and formats if you'll need a lot of cores, the expensive eGPU Pro, both or only the more decent versions.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Agreed, but I am not sure how long the wait would be. Spring is the time it will be announced. Getting a machine in hand?

And we can't even speculate pricing when it comes to Mac!

And experienced and foxy powerusers often wait for revision 2 of a machine, not to be fooled as beta testers...

If you take that approach, you might be waiting for a few years given how long it's been since the last Mac Mini update...

Looks like Blackmagic and Apple stealth-launched a new version of their eGPU enclosure, with a RX Vega 56. Priced at $1199. The Radeon Pro 580 model is still around at $699. Neither is a particularly great deal, but if you need an eGPU to drive a TB3 display, now you can at least get a Vega.

I have the Mac mini and eGPU and it is not working well together. Can’t get the setup to work when connecting the Mac mini to the eGPU and the eGPU to monitor. In this configuration there is no video to the monitor at all including at boot up which doesn’t work on any level.

Hi,
I edit in Premiere Pro but I'm really considering a transfer to DaVinci Resolve. I have my old Hackintosh (i7 3770, 32gb, Nvidia 660ti) and also MacBook Pro 13' 2016, two Thunderbolt 3 (i5 6360U, 16gb ram). I'm slowly thinking about a change for the better hardware solution. New Mac Mini (i7, 64gb) looks promisingly, but to work in Davinci Resolve, eGPU is still necessary. I think that I will wait for spring to check if APPLE will release new Mac Pro. BTW, I'm just curious if I can edit in Davinci Resolve on my MacBook Pro with Blackmagic eGPU PRO, which I could use with Mac Mini or Mac Pro in the future?
