Strangeness with 15.2 Win installer

PostWed Nov 14, 2018 8:59 pm

I installed V15.2 on two Windows 10 machines. Both did a reboot and failed to install at the first try.

I uninstalled v15.1.2 first. Then proceeded with the installation of V15.2. In each case I walked away so I don't know what really happened. But when I came back I realized the machines rebooted. When I logged in the V15.2 wasn't installed. The second attempt to install worked well.

The Resolve installer does nothing that should cause a reboot.

Perhaps, since you were away, something else caused the reboot?

Mine did a reboot as well.

What I did differently this time is I tried to install some kind of Fairlight option that was not currently installed or auto checked when I first ran the upgrade installer.

During the first stage of the install, it did a spontaneous reboot with no confirmation dialog. After the reboot, I was able to run the installer and finish the Resolve install, but I got an error when I first launched the application.

Windows 10 x64 Version 1803
Upgraded from Studio version 15.1.1.
The 11/13 OS patches are installed from Microsoft.

Unfortunately, I did not try to save any logs or screenshot the error that I received. I just manually uninstalled the application and did a clean install to fix the issue, so it's now working fine for me.

I checked the option to install the Fairlight Studio software, and it rebooted without confirmation/notification. Installing Resolve Studio 15.2 after that did not reboot.

Interesting. So far, I've been unable to reproduce this.

I normally don't check the Fairlight stuff, as my systems don't have that. But selecting both Fairlight options on one Windows test system did not cause a reboot.

OK, it made my desktop Windows system restart.

Dev team is looking into it.

But bottom line for now is: Don't tick the Fairlight checkboxes if you don't have Fairlight hardware. The Fairlight Studio app is for the Fairlight consoles, so if you don't have Fairlight consoles, don't install the Fairlight Studio app.
