Why aren't customers notified of updates?

PostFri Nov 16, 2018 10:44 pm

I'd think BlackMagic would E-mail customers to let them know that a new version of Resolve is available, but I've never received such a message.

I think this is a fair complaint. It might be nice if there were a "Check for Updates" button available in the About menu.

It's mystifying that we have to bring this up in 2018.

Do you fill out the form when downloading? Or just click the download only link?

I'd love for Resolve to check every time it opens, and let us know when an update is available, with the option to dismiss without updating, remind again later, or update now.

It would only work on connected machines, of course, but it'd be nice.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I fill out the form on every update. I assume this wastes just as much time for them as it does for us. Do they really want a database full of duplicate info?

I filled out the form the first time.

They manage to send out marketing E-mails. I don't see why they don't send product-update E-mails.

I'm not even asking for it to be integrated into the product. Just send an E-mail.

BlackMagic's Twitter feed usually precedes the announcement on this forum.
The Facebook posting appears to follow shortly after the posting here.
Posts to several other forums seem to follow not long after these.

And, sneakily, this forum's RSS feed is now functional again, which is another method of obtaining an immediate update on new releases (and other forum posts).

No customer should have to run around scouring social media, forums, and blogs for this information. That's ridiculous. Some of us are actually working and not dicking around online.

BMD has our E-mail addresses and should use them. Period.
